| 27 Nov 08 | Advent and Christmas (5) | (28 Nov 08, 7:47 AM by wonderer) |
| I can't think of a better way to mark by 2000th post (yes, 2000 - what a lot of hot air I spout) than by reposting an edited form of a year old weblog about the season known to Christians as Advent, which again is upon us from this Sunday (29th Nov) until Christmas. [more...]

| 13 Nov 08 | Navigating IC weblogs since demise of Off Topic (7) | (14 Nov 08, 12:46 AM by FaerieCatcher) |
| I posted the text below as a thread on Website help, here http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/posts/215237/ , but Admin deemed it to be more appropriate as a weblog, so here goes. [more...]

| 13 Nov 08 | O Magnum Mysterium - Lauridsen (4) | (14 Nov 08, 4:23 PM by wonderer) |
| Just discovered this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mHIvk3mUNBc on youtube and I'm utterly ravished. It seems to be an ad hoc rehersal so there are better recordings of course (such as this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iss5a8BqYw0&featur...), but this has a special quality. The sheer ability and sensitivity of the singers, their response to the interpretative gestures of the conductor, their dynamic range, wonderful tone, and musicality coupled with the sheer beauty of Lauridsen's piece make it an unforgettable clip, despite the informality of the setting and recording. One just wonders how [more...]

| 12 Nov 08 | Envy (5) | (12 Nov 08, 8:44 PM by MrsTopman1) |
| I was having a discussion the other day with a person on IC about whether or not envy is always wrong. It's a word with usually negative connotations and indeed envy can consume someone and lead to dissatisfaction with their own life and resentment of others who are (or appear to be) more fortunate. [more...]

| 4 Nov 08 | Tolerance, diversity and religious beliefs | (4 Nov 08, 7:21 AM by wonderer) |
| Edited quickly to add a thank you for the surprising number of memos I have already received in reply. I'll try to reply to each in the next day or two, assuming I'm not completely inundated. [more...]

| 27 Oct 08 | Self indulgence and the benefits of restraint (4) | (16 Nov 08, 3:57 PM by wonderer) |
| I've been reflecting in recent times on the pros and cons of a gentleman such as myself being free to indulge in the hedonistic pursuit of personal pleasure. A truly civilised person enjoys pleasure in moderation, with refinement, exercising a measure of self restraint. Is there not something a bit grotesque about gorging oneself, like a child let loose in a sweetshop? [more...]

| 8 Aug 08 | Proper care of a pet (5) | (17 Nov 08, 1:17 PM by caslad) |
| I have a little pet who I love to stroke - have done for years, and when I do he gets very excited and swells with pride and joy, but if I keep going too long he eventually vomits. It's such fun but rather self indulgent. But for the last few weeks a nice woman has been teaching me to stop spoiling the little fellow; she tells me how much attention I should give to him, and asks me to email her back with his reaction. Some days I don't get to stroke him or play with him at all; on others I have to stroke him as instructed to make him happy until his mouth is moist and he's almost at his peak of [more...]

| 6 Jul 08 | Venus Williams | (6 Jul 08, 5:14 PM by wonderer) |
| What an athlete; what a star. And what a gorgeously attractive young woman - always felt more so than Serena. |
| 28 Jun 08 | Had a wank last night ... (5) | (29 Jun 08, 12:35 AM by switch_honey) |
| ... actually 2, which means the codeine tablets didn't destroy my libido permanently; they just put it on hold. Had to check everything's still in working order! Problem now is I'll go all self indulgent and become addicted to self abuse. Really do feel I need a disciplinarian, but that's quite another matter. |

| 25 Jun 08 | Confessional (1) | (2 Jul 08, 1:09 PM by badspyro) |

| 23 Jun 08 | One handed typing (5) | (25 Jun 08, 11:50 AM by wonderer) |
| All my typing will be one handed for a while, with possibly more typos than ever, but don't jump to conclusions. My other arm is in a sling following a 25 mph cycling accident this morning. (Broken collar bone and wrist). [more...]

| 22 May 08 | munching again (7) | (28 May 08, 12:55 AM by slavegirlclover) |
| Another and necessarily rather brief visit to the LND munch in Nottingham last night. Was persuaded by clover's memos. Great to meet a few people I remember from January as well as others. (I hope it isn't a breach of protcol / confidentiality to name people who were there; I won't in case it is). The venue is a Goth themed pub and so people get away with wearing all manner of weird and wonderful outfits if the want, though "normal" clothing seemed quite acceptable too. In fact there was obviously some other group in fancy dress in the pub at the same time. Had a very interesting chat with someone [more...]

| 15 Feb 08 | Still hanging in | (15 Feb 08, 9:03 PM by wonderer) |
| Well .. since my last weblog, I'm still here, though not as much as I was. Trying to give time to my priority relationship when possible, to be grateful for the freedoms I have and patient and hopeful for what may be. |
| 29 Jan 08 | Oh dear ... | (29 Jan 08, 6:56 AM by wonderer) |
| As a few have expressed interest in my personal story so far, I hope it won't be thought too self indulgent to recount the latest of the twists and turns in my discourse with the one I love more than any, committedly and permanently. [more...]

| 27 Jan 08 | London Munch - my second scene outing | (27 Jan 08, 8:52 AM by wonderer) |

| 18 Jan 08 | Campaign against Pornography (3) | (23 Jan 08, 9:58 PM by Lady_Vanessa) |
| In the late '80s in my younger and more earnest days, I used to belong to a (many female) feminist group affiliated to the Campaign against pornography, supported nationally by Clare Short (she of the page 3 bill). We used to go en masse into W H Smut, remove all the top shelf mags, take to the till and ask to see the manager. Then we'd explain that this was demeaning to women and to the men who buy them too. | 17 Jan 08 | First ever Munch ... (8) | (27 Jan 08, 7:41 AM by wonderer) |
| ... with the full (though slightly concerned) support of Mrs Wonderer. And what a fascinating, eye-opening and enjoyable evening. Had the pleasure of meeting people in some ways so different to my normal circles, more alternative, creative, colourful. Some of the jewels who stand out in the rich tapestry which is humanity. | 13 Jan 08 | Permission to explore? A more nuanced response (3) | (14 Jan 08, 12:39 PM by Tadashii_Aikouka) |
| Following this weblog: http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/weblogs/wondere... I've reopened the discussion with my (vanilla) wife about permissions and got a less enthusiastic, more nuanced & guarded response. Still accepts it may be part of me, but she has loads of concerns. [more...]
