| 27 Jun 10 | Ultraviolence: some thoughts, questions and theory (13) | (29 Jun 10, 12:00 PM by pleasureswitch) |
| I have a question. I decided not to post it on the Ultraviolence boards itself, as I don't see why subscribers to that group would necessarily have much interest in this, but nevertheless I have some queries. And yes, this is in relation to something I'm writing. [more...] | ||
| 4 Apr 10 | In defence of Andrea Dworkin (47) | (13 Apr 10, 2:00 PM by skyfox) |
| So I'm reading Andrea Dworkin's 'Intercourse', which I bought with some trepidation for a quid from a second hand bookshop down the road. I have an uneasy relationship with Andrea Dworkin's work. As the big-name radfems go, she was without doubt the smartest and also the most misread and misunderstood -- by radical feminists as much as outraged men's rights activists, frankly. When I read her book 'Pornography: Men Possessing Women' I was genuinely infuriated by her complete misreading of pornography, but always thought her book 'Right Wing Women' was brilliant and in parts hilarious. | 25 Mar 10 | There is someone.. (4) | (25 Mar 10, 10:52 PM by Grownup_Frankie) |
| .. I miss. And am going to miss. It's a strange thing when you make a great friend out of a lover, particularly one with whom you've had a tumultuous sort of bond, so tumultuous that it's caused upset and drama for people other than us over the course of just over a year, to the point where it stopped being worth it, and then we reassessed and were entangled once again: and this time it has mostly been easy as pie. And then he decides to opt for monogamy. He does not think our relationship will alter much. I know this not to be true. There are intimacies that come with a sexual partner beyond sex. | 8 May 09 | Neo-burlesque: an essay (7) | (14 Oct 09, 9:25 PM by Morphish) |
| This be an essay I wrote right at the beginning of my MA, fuelled by anger about the state of neo-burlesque today. There's a lot here I'd change. Firstly, the idea that trangression ultimately leads to liberation (I now think that's a hugely simplistic argument). Secondly, that individual empowerment plays a big part in drawing people to grass roots activism (it can (and CAAN!), but doesn't always), and generally it's poorly written in places. [more...] | ||

| 12 Mar 09 | Karen Barad is a fucking genius (26) | (15 Mar 09, 8:04 PM by toothbrush) |
| "Performativity, properly construed, is not an invitation to turn everything (including material bodies) into words, on the contrary, performativity is precisely a contestation of the excessive power granted to language to determine what is real. Hence, in ironic contrast to the misconception that would equate performativity with a form of linguistic monanism that takes language to be the stuff of reality, performativity is actually a contestation of the unexamined habits of the mind that grant language and other forms of representation more power in determining our ontologies than they deserve." | I really lost my writing mojo last week, and the weeks preceding. A feeling of needing to write, and just not being able to. I got some kindly memos offering writers' block advice, so many thanks for those, but really the impetus had to come from me. [more...] | ||

| I was going to write a blog about my BDSM identity crisis of late tonight, but somehow can't muster the energy. My insomnia is bad at the moment. I usually have no problem sleeping initially (it's staying asleep that's the problem), but this week I've tossed and turned and watched the sun come up. [more...] | ||
