Preliminary BDSM Interests Chart

One of the questions about the IC profiles is whether different interests are grouped together or not. For example, if someone says they are interested in cross-dressing, what is the likelihood that they would be interested in watersports or bondage? A similar study was done on a group of 184 Finnish SM club members, which revealed patterns of Hypermasculinity, Humiliation, Administration of Pain and Physical Restriction. They created a magnificent map of the layout of different activities. (You can read the whole article here.) The goal is to create a similar map of the interests on IC.

Correcting Stereotypes?

I was in the queue at the post office, and there was a woman in front of me with a beautiful blond curly-haired little girl. The girl must have been between 2 and 4yo; I couldn't see the woman's face. Next to the queue was a strategically placed display of those cheap 1 pound toys, you know, guns that will only fire once, plastic nails, dolls, the usual plastic tat. The little girl was pointing at different toys saying "boys, boys, boys" and occasionally "girls" or "yellow". What really infuriated me, though, was that the parent-figure (mother? grandmother?) agreed with every pronunciation that the girl made, even commenting that "all the toys are for boys" (there were a lot of guns facing the girl). This went on for several minutes (slow post office) and I became madder and madder that the gender stereotypes presented in these toys (fake nails in pink, dolls in pink, guns in blue, etc.) were being not only noticed by the little girl, but also confirmed and encouraged by the parent. But I couldn't think of anything to say.

Collarme is not IC

The issue of demographics has been bothering me for some time (as you can see in my other blog about age and personal ads on IC). So today I was doing a bit of research (yeah, I know "I've got too much time on my hands!" piss off.) trying to find out about other internet dating websites.

My first response to the More mature women and BDSM was: What's your evidence that fewer "mature" (read: over 55) women are into BDSM? So I decided to check it out, and found out that yes, "mature" men grossly outnumber "mature" women, but I also found a few other interesting things.

to "Tax" someone?? (Scottish slang?)

So I was on the bus the other day and this guy (nice proper sweatpant-wearing nasel-speaking fella) got on at the same stop and was talking nonstop to different people on his mobile really loudly. First he was tellin a friend he was thinking about stopping by on his way home and did he have any money? Then it was some other person, and did they have any money? Then someone must have told him something important because then he spent the next 10 minutes phoning at least two different people asking about "Wee Eckie" because "Wee Eckie" came knockin around his Ma's door askin for his "wee bra". Apparently, "Wee Eckie"'s beef was that "ma wee bra spoke out of turn and said, well he didn't say he was gonna tax him, but he said if he was gonna tax him it'd be easy". As the journey progressed, he moved from a more worried stance to a more defensive/aggressive? stance stating that this "Wee Eckie" fella had crossed a line by knocking at his mum's door asking for his bra, and he wouldn't go round to no cunts door asking for the cunt. Or, at least, he wouldn't go round to no cunt's ma's door askin for him. (I think there was a "fucking" or two in there.) He didn't use the classic "kick his cunt in" phrase or something similar, but there were threats of violence upon the absent "Wee Eckie".

Edinburgh Fringe: Mental Collapse of a Comedian

Saw this great show yesterday, "Golden Showers of Love", part of the Free Fringe series of events. It was fantastic. The guy basically spent an hour doing slightly disturbing stand-up in a way that had most of the audience wondering if they were witnessing a complete and utter mental breakdown. Maybe he was. Maybe he wasn't and it was based off of his mental breakdown a while ago. It's a bit of a mystery. But either way it is NOT like any other comedy show I've seen. Imagine if Dylan Moran was believable. That'd be this guy. So, if you find the Human Caterpillar funny, and enjoy movies where characters are borderline mad, then this guy is for you.

Paying Sallie Mae from the UK

American student loans are a bastard. And American student loan companies are bastards. And Sallie Mae is a bastard. They are all bastards, and I owe the bastards a bastardly amount of money. Which I was paying. But the first bastards at Citibank who were kind enough to let me use my credit card then sold my bastard loan in a bastard move to the bastards at Sallie Mae. Google them: everyone thinks they're bastards. The bastards at Sallie Mae don't allow credit cards online, and all comments about paying by credit card from other people online reveal Sallie Mae to be bastards about payments.

Doctor Who's age

I'm no expert on the show (obviously), but judging from the various ages of the actors playing the Doctor, The Doctor should be played by a 25 year old by 2016, a 20 year old by 2040, and an 18 year old by 2050. (Plot it on MS Excel and add a trend line forecast.)

A couple weeks back I bought some new Dr Martins, boots and Christina shoes. I'm now breaking them in. They make me bleed, especially the Christinas. But I've been wrapping my feet in bandages to help combat the blisters. There's something nice about wrapping my feet in the morning.

Socks and Ebay

I need new socks. So rather than haul my ass into town with traffic and *shudder* people, I'm looking online to see if there's any good deals. Did you know there's worn socks on ebay? Have you seen these? Sexy pictures of women wearing socks along with the statement that in accordance with Ebay regulations, the items will be washed before shipping. You can even buy genuine Hooters socks! Crazy. There's one woman selling her pantyhose and tights the same way. Just thought I'd let you foot/sock/bloomer fetishists know.
