| Goodness. A surprise to read today it's the 25th anniversary of the Challenger disaster. Odd, as it was only two days ago I was revisiting When We Left Earth, a rather spiffy documentary series on the history of the US space programme. | My first venture into solo living was in December 1994, at the ripe old age of 22. I rented the top floor of a converted house; there was a nice chap on the ground floor who acted as the landlord's agent (and to whom I paid my rent - I forget now how much, it might have been £180 a month all in), a very quiet girl had the rooms on the first floor hidden behind her own door, and then after another flight of stairs the way was blocked by my "front door". | Out at a big shopping centre yesterday, it felt weird to realise that the whole Christmas thing is passing me by again this year. Weird, and good, and possibly a little sad - but I was also massively grateful that I don't have to get caught up in all those queues! It's my choice: for the second year running I'm not going to my mum's for Christmas, but staying home with a good book or three, smoked salmon for breakfast on the big day, and two weeks off work.
