There are many ways of having fun with our desires and all ways are valid for different people in different circumstances. However, when I first came onto the scene led by my desires to explore power exchange, I imagined that I would eventually fit such an exploration into a relationship of love, caring and sharing - similar to how vanilla relationships are meant to look. I remove my shirt. Barefoot, wearing a conventional pair of dark blue jeans and my torso exposed, I am lead over to a wide square pillar to the side of the room. It was a lucky shag. An opportunistic dive into the Student union bar, running into a group of freshers already half pissed sitting with some vague acquaintances of mine, giving me the perfect excuse to sit down without giving the obvious impression I was now out on the pull. The play I have been having in clubs recently has got a bit more emotionally complex than what a casual description could do justice to. So I think I may save that for another time and place. What is quite interesting, however, is the subspace such edgy play seems to put me into. What would ordinarily be sharp thoughts in my mind become feelings and images, and what would ordinarily be decisions to do things become slight desires that take much longer to become activated. Somewhat a bolt on to the previous rant so apologies if it goes a little preachy: there is an assumption that people within "the scene" are a more tolerant bunch than those outside of it. This does not seem an unreasonable assumption and I feel it is backed up by some reasonable evidence although I feel far too much is made of it. The scene is a community with certain alternative values to sexuality and intimate relationships. The same could be said of many religious communities and many political communities. My club experience doubled in one night last weekend. Sweet Torments is well named: the "Sweet" part is at the beginning when you see all the lovely equipment and then have a chance to try some of it out. The "torment" part happens towards the end when they switch off the heating in order to pursuade the shivering club goers it is time to head back to central London or out of the city altogther. More than ever, I have become aware how quickly my light frame loses heat into the cold air. I was made for warmer climes. [more...]
