8 Nov 11My Transsexual Summer,CH4 TONIGHT. (29) by Empress_Martine (10 Nov 11, 2:32 AM by Pinderella)
This should be am interesting programme. Seven transgender men and women come together to share experiences of changing gender. Note this is in a society that regularly misunderstands this event.
27 Oct 11A reduction in crime since the riots? (2) by Empress_Martine (2 Nov 11, 10:51 PM by Empress_Martine)
Is possible there has been a reduction in transphobic crime including insulting a trans person? Tonight I only got one insult but it was out of context. In that I not gay and never have been.I used to get at least two or three. Note I was grocery shopring but that should not make a difference. So since the riots, has anyone else noticed a reduction or increase in transphobic crime?
22 Oct 11Are surveys blind?  (6) by Empress_Martine (27 Oct 11, 12:12 AM by Empress_Martine)
When every I get a survey,it always states gender as male or female. I usual put in a extra box marked trans and tick it! Do other feel like me that we are being ignored or do you ignore what has been done.

Firstout, the longest running LGBT cafe in London, will be closing in a fortnight. This is due to the upheaval caused by crossrail. Pay your last respects and remember a landmark in LGBT history.
11 Oct 11Intersex on BBC1 Tonight. by Empress_Martine (11 Oct 11, 8:34 PM by Empress_Martine)
Tonight, the BBC have excelled themselves. At ten thirty five tonight,Me,My Sex and I,a documentry on Intersex. It said that only two per cent of the population may be this way but most of the interviews are from people in the medical field so it should be interesting.

If you think you have it hard as an MtoF then watch two FtoM's going through transition, both of them and living on a rough northern housing estate. Its repeated at 12.30 am and on I-player. Watch then discuss this question;"Is it harder to be a FtoM them MtoF?"

4 Aug 11Leicester Surgeon (11) by Romola (29 Oct 11, 3:59 PM by Empress_Martine)
Has anyone heard anything about the surgeon based at Leicester recently? I'm not naming him because I don't particularly want this thread coming up in a Google search. I have heard of someone who was due to have her pre-surgery appointment with him this week. She was called 4 days before the appointment and told that it was cancelled as the surgeon is no longer working for the NHS. She now has no clue what will happen next, and her clinic doesn't either, as they got the news that same day. Has anyone heard anything? Please let me know on here or in a memo if that's more comfortable.
29 Jul 11Dream gender (13) by DrTaps (26 Sep 11, 6:32 AM by lis0rp)
I am anatomically male, but transgendered. Not taking hormones, not planning on surgery. In a dream the other night I was an anatomical and genetic woman (strangely doing the job I was initially trained to do). I don't remember being a woman in my dreams before. I am hoping it will happen more often. [more...]

2 May 11Survey on trans related language (6) by DrTaps (16 Jun 11, 4:33 PM by Empress_Martine)
Helen Boyd has posted a link to a survey on trans related language. Basically how we, as trans people, feel about different ways in which we are described and referred to. The survey is looking for input from trans people to try and provide guidance to the medical/sociology groups on how to describe and talk to "us", and it includes a wide range of possible trans identities. 21 Jan 11Advice about work (22) by Romola (10 Feb 11, 4:41 PM by leather_n_stuff)
I would like to ask for advice about supporting a trans friend at work. She is due to have her final and major operation in June and I understand the recovery time is quite lengthy. She joined us as a volunteer about 7 months ago and has pretty much assumed up to now that everyone knew that she was trans, but it became clear today that at least one of our colleagues has no idea. Our workplace is very ethnically diverse and some of our volunteer staff and interpreters can be a little naive. Some come from cultures where it's more normal to ask quite intimate questions so, where a British person [more...]
19 Jan 11Cis-gender privilege reference (5) by Liefsome (19 Jan 11, 5:27 PM by Liefsome)
This tend to be a point of contention for a lot of people, and something that has a lot of variance from case to case, but having seen this referenced a couple of times, I thought I would just deposit a link here for people to read up on in their own time. [more...]
