21 Dec 11Here comes the sun (8)(22 Dec 11, 5:34 PM by crimbo_clitpump)
That's it - the Earth's creep into short winter days and long winter nights is over and, as of GMT 05:30 morning, SUMMER IS ON THE WAY AGAIN (for us in the Northern hemisphere). For the poor Aussies it's winter next stop, ding ding :-D.
13 Dec 11The letters 'F', 'A', 'T' (in no particular order) (1)(13 Dec 11, 8:13 PM by angellover)
There's been a fatter than normal thread on informed debate recently (only the regulars will have noticed) but it was inspired by some Euro stats which I recently crunched with some Wiki facts in my blog on the 3rd of December to reveal the tonnage of excess which obese women in the UK need to shed between them to get down a collective fattest 'normal' BMI - it's 78,732 tonnes of lard that needs dieting away. Put that mince pie down and stand away.

18 Oct 112 more sleeps(18 Oct 11, 9:45 AM by Top_Class)
Ideally you'll have done all 100 things by now so you'll be able to simply relax and enjoy the rest of your life. If not the further you need to go geographically the less chance you're gonna have to get them done. By way of example, if the last one on your list is white-water rafting Peru's Apurimac river you'd need the 12:10 out of LHR tomorrow, Cuzco by midday on Thursday, on to accom near a rafting centre by the evening and job done early Friday.

7 Oct 11My little chickpea and 14 sleeps(7 Oct 11, 5:57 PM by Top_Class)
My little chickpea is a pure class and age thing: ABC1 and under 44 singles you out as likely to be a consumer of ground-up chickpeas in this country. Which is ironic really as eating ground-up chickpeas mixed with tahini, garlic, lemon and olive oil is for peasants to do in the countries where the food originates. [more...]

25 Sep 1180% Cocoa Solids (1)(25 Sep 11, 7:14 PM by Shypeachybottom)
Chocolate seems to fascinate everybody with lads wondering why lasses like it so much. Apply boy-thinking to a product like chocolate and the conclusion is very clear: if "80% cocoa-solids" is chocolate heaven then 90% must be bliss and 100% cocoa-solids will be total fucking chocolate ecstasy. The proof of the pudding, they say, is in the eating so here are the ingredients - 1 sister, 4 lads, 1 video camera and 4 bars of chocolate - sounds like a hot chocolate video to me and, boy, it certainly is here on youtube. 24 Sep 11UARS buggered (3)(24 Sep 11, 4:54 PM by SheilaBlyge)
In a statement affirming the precise nature of space flight NASA stuck a box of pins in the map and has been able to state with great authority that UARS penetration happened sometime between 4:23am BST and 6.09am BST for which 67.9% of the time the track was over ocean; 19.8% over Africa; 10.4% over Canada and 1.9% over the USA. What beggars belief is that we mugs are still expected to believe that space-flight is about precision and finesse when all the evidence associated with them handling their rubbish points to organisations consisting primarily of Mr Beans or Jeremy Clarksons. 24 Sep 110.0% chance the US will get its junk back (9)(24 Sep 11, 10:00 AM by SirOpenSource)
NASA now expects UARS re-entry sometime between 04:45 BST and 05:45 BST Saturday 24th September. During this 60 minute period UARS will spend 45 minutes over water (75.0%); 5 minutes over Africa (8.3%) and 10 minutes over Canada (16.7%). The FAA has also issued a notice to pilots to look out for falling debris - not in order to shimmy around it but in order to identify where it falls. You know NASA cancelled an option to return the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite in one piece on the Shuttle? Why? Because it [more...]
23 Sep 11Uncontrolled Arbitary-Reentry Satellite (UARS) (6)(23 Sep 11, 5:13 PM by Lj_switch)
Update :: UARS will be 95 miles above the UK twice in the wee small hours of 24th September, firstly at 01:05:34 BST on a west to east track passing above Fort William and secondly at 02:37:26 tracking north-west to south-east from Anglesey to Stevenage to Southend-on-Sea. After that the next theoretical over-fly would be in late evening, 24th September - theoretical because NASA is reckoning UARS should have re-entered by then. [more...]
22 Sep 11Faster than light (4)(23 Sep 11, 10:53 AM by tanken)
Neutrinos. CERN, Geneva, announced today that it has consistently seen neutrinos travel to Italy faster than light would ever be able to as they arrived 60 nanoseconds before they theoretically should have done. Of course if there's a convenient wormhole for them to use or they are warping space then there'd be a space-time shortcut available for them to effectively travel a shorter path while never travelling more than the speed of light themselves (maybe [more...]

5 Sep 11"I'll see you later." (7)(6 Sep 11, 11:55 AM by DrNasty)
No you won't. How is it possible that someone could say that so sincerely? It's not said in a cheeky way with a little wink afterwards. Nor is it said in a "death of a monarch" deeply serious way, but really very casually and yet very sincerely as though it's going happen ... "I'll see you later"! No, you won't. Not now, not today, not tomorrow, not never. I know this, trust me, I absolutely know this. From where you are you will never, ever, ever, in a million years, ever see me later. [more...]
