11 Apr 12Musar again! (1) by Artful_dodger (11 Apr 12, 7:23 PM by Mad_Monk)
Well I purchased a bottle of 2003 Lebanese Chateaux Musar on Saturday from Tanners in Shrewsbury for £23. It was good but not great. I decanted the wine about three hours before drinking and that helped but it just didn't seem to have the power and the fruit that the 1980's produced....or am I just looking back with rosy colored glasses?? we dicovered the fortified version randomly in a little kiosk in Moscow; it has a great history and very, very drinkable

My local Tesco are currently offering two bottles of 2009 Alexander Valley Cab Sauv for £12 (normally £8 a bottle). If you like your Cab Sauv boozy and slightly refined (It's less fruity than some but still full of lovely fruit and a hefty 14.5%) I'd recommend this one.

Anyone know a London supplier of decent Bulgarian wine? ie not the basics Cabernet Sauvignon at £3 a bottle. I'm looking in particular for Melnik and Mavrud varieties, preferably Logodaj but open to suggestions though Domain Boyar is passable.

Adnams (the brewers) have opened a shop on Store Street (off Tottenham Court Road) and have a hireable wine-tasting basement. Worth exploring? I'd volunteer, but am knee-deep in postgrad coursework deadlines at the mo!

Morrisons are selling their 2006 Lagunilla Rioja Reserva at £5 a bottle until Jan 8th. The 2005 was really good and the 2006 is just as good. An excellent quality rioja for this price.

I'm not a man who's fond of turkey. To me gobbling and stuffing should be reserved for priveleged submissives. Not particularly for that reason I roast beef fillet on Christmas day , and normally accompany it with decent Bordeaux or sometimes a spicy Rioja. All change this year. [more...]
