I have also been attracted to and influenced by the medieval concept of courtly love, whereby the desire a knight had for a lady, was not to be consummated, for this love was transcendent, motivated by a deep respect. It found its expression not in sexual intercourse (well in theory anyway!) but in chivalric deeds. This would contrast with Ovid's emphasis on the pleasure to be gained from the thrill of the chase and a more obviously erotic outcome. I rather like a fusion of the two! A submissive knight earns my favour but I am capable of returning that passion and devotion when captivated by him, including erotically.
