Club Lash 9th birthday party

We've not been to Lash for a while, but lili, popi and I made a special effort to go last night, to Club Lash's 9th anniversary birthday party, and had a great time.

The first Lash I got to was the fourth one, on 3rd October 1998 (the first at the Cathedral Arches venue they used for several years) and the preceding events had been widely advertised (A3 posters pasted on the litter bins of Manchester city centre streets even!) but the venue was officially a secret: you had to phone their answering machine and leave your name and number to get a callback with the details.

The first four were all at different locations, and over the years they've had their share of problems with venues, but they've been settled in to The Tunnel at Legends since June 2004 - where for big nights, like last night, they now get the whole venue, and very full it was too.

For me the highlight of the evening was a Burlesque show at midnight, not least because it brought people together as an audience and let people mark those nine years together.

"Old gits" like me sometimes say people take the scene for granted, but in some way that's its biggest success.
