12 Feb 08The Single Best Idea(12 Feb 08, 11:29 AM by PFLsAgain)
Today is the 199th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin. According to the American philosopher Daniel Dennett: [more...]
14 Jan 08Echoes Across Time(14 Jan 08, 2:54 PM by PFLsAgain)
03:10 hours, Thursday August 26th, 1943: A Whitley bomber was returning from a night training sortie. The twin merlin engines droned across the night sky and the airfield was difficult to locate because of the blackout in force. It found its home base and touched down; perhaps the pilot relaxed too soon. No-one knows. The huge bomber swung viciously on landing and smashed through the control tower killing the pilot and his bomb aimer. Fifteen people in the tower escaped unharmed but the radio operator was hurt. The station was operational again less than six hours later. Such are the unsentimental [more...]
7 Jan 08Forceful Words (14)(8 Jan 08, 6:14 PM by PFLsAgain)
This tragic tale of Freudian slips takes place in a pervy New Year's Eve party. Decadence and Debauchery to be precise. Allow me to set the scene. A neatly set out arrangement of tables on the dance floor has already been destroyed at the insistence of a large group of friends intending to sit together. The resulting mish-mash has left a couple of people with their backs to the stage, but they cope by craning their necks. [more...]
24 Dec 07Sentinel(24 Dec 07, 5:47 PM by PFLsAgain)
It seemed as though the year must fade away into endless grey days with just an artificial pause to mark the turning of a year. Time passes slowly to those who wait. Then suddenly, unexpectedly, the high pressure gave way to a window of pure blue skies and cold crisp air. [more...]
5 Dec 07Happy Birthday maihri! (4)(6 Dec 07, 8:41 AM by maihri)
21 again! Happy birthday beautiful lady :-) xxxx
17 Oct 07Uncertain Endings(17 Oct 07, 10:54 AM by PFLsAgain)
You'd often see him sitting there. On bad days he'd be curled up under the bush seeking shelter beneath a mass of laurel leaves. Rain drops would roll slowly from the pointed leaf tips but the cosy little den amongst the roots would remain dry. On warmer days he'd sun himself on the top step near to the pond. Both locations conveniently close to the food bowl which despite many arguments and decisions to the contrary, someone insisted on leaving out for him. [more...]
17 Sep 07A Switch's Dream(17 Sep 07, 10:28 PM by PFLsAgain)
It was a turbulent day here in Shropshire, matching perfectly my mood. Wild and savage, demanding and unforgiving of the ordinariness and mundanity of day to day life. The wind at the airfield was wildly swinging in direction and gusting so that the windsock snapped alarmingly on the pole. A small coterie of cautious pilots sat glumly in the clubhouse and contemplated flying another day. A sullen quiet marked the slowly dragging afternoon and the scene appeared suspended in time as I rolled up for my weekly flying fix. [more...]
24 Sep 06A Mooving Tale of Countryside Tragedy Featuring Scenes of Picnic Devastation (14)(24 Sep 06, 8:27 PM by electricfog)
It was an idyllic spot really. There we were sitting by the side of a crystal clear stream watching an eccentric old dog diving for stones, denuding the river bed in a madly otterish way. The sky was beautifully blue, the picnic was rapidly becoming history and then tragedy struck. [more...]

5 Jun 06Seeing Red: When it all Goes Wrong(5 Jun 06, 10:40 PM by PFLsAgain)
Three weeks ago, after a club-record lay-off for bad weather, I finally achieved a long-held dream and qualified as an aerobatic pilot. It's just a simple little qualification that attests to basic competency and a belief that a passenger might just be safe in the same aircraft as me, but it was a proud moment. [more...]
21 Apr 06Every Northern Raindrop (1)(21 Apr 06, 5:18 PM by DevilRob)
Windscreen-wipers sweep from side to side over and again, slewing aside wave after wave of water. Streaming rivulets slither round the windscreen's edge and slide past the side window; rain drops cling to the wing mirror slowly losing their grip and smacking fatly against the bodywork behind. The susurration of aquaplaning sports tyres a sibilant counterpoint to the cautious growl of a reluctant straight six. Lights gleam wetly and star as a car slowly emerges from its shroud of spray. The six-lane river snakes its way northwards towards the waste land and every northern raindrop laments: I wish [more...]
27 Feb 06Challenging Limits (3)(28 Feb 06, 8:32 AM by PFLsAgain)
If you're South African, never make the mistake of being called Van der Merwe. A colleague of mine did that and had to move to the UK to get away from it all. The poor old Van der Merwes are the butt of every Afrikaaner's joke in much the same way as are blondes all round the world. I learned this sitting in a remote farmhouse in South Africa close to the Namibian border - inevitably the owner was a Van der Merwe. I'd come thousands of miles to see the famous Namaqualand spring flower displays and as usual I'd managed to root out the only other pilot among the party. So we sat around a big farmhouse [more...]
24 Feb 06The ghost gerbil and the five gallon cup of tea (9)(25 Feb 06, 12:05 AM by subsumed)
A loud thud like an overweight cat jumping from a sideboard was what woke me. Momentarily frozen and immobile in bed, my heart racing, I took stock of my surroundings. A light airy room with a high vaulted ceiling, wooden floors and beams and sunlight pouring through the picture windows. I'd never seen it before but I knew it was my room and that there was something evil there that needed to be caught. [more...]
16 Feb 06Staring Into the Heart of Darkness (3)(16 Feb 06, 7:39 PM by PFLsAgain)
The picture is of a T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. T-ALL to its friends, if it had any. The colours are not real but the photograph is and I find myself wondering how something so dangerous and aggressive can simultaneously be so beautiful and attractive. But then that's not a unique contrast is it. The allure of power and danger is much more common than we'd ordinarily admit. [more...]
31 Jan 06The Set Of All Endings (6)(1 Feb 06, 10:11 PM by PFLsAgain)
It has been a while since I've written about anything much so it occurred to me to write a story. I don't usually write stories, so I looked for a form or a formula to follow. The standby of introduction, middle and end suggested itself and I could see no reason to depart from this classic. So here it is, my small story. Parts of it may even be true. [more...]
9 Jan 06Advice from a mad cow (10)(1 Apr 06, 8:33 PM by PFLsAgain)
It started with an email entitled "oops". It was from the Associate Dean of the Medical School and contained only a single link to a website. I clicked on it and read the page with a sinking feeling in my stomach and rising rage that stuck in my throat and reduced me to incoherence. [more...]
30 Nov 05Taking Charge (7)(1 Dec 05, 11:13 AM by PFLsAgain)
I check my height, push the throttle forward and dive towards the ground, careful not to over-speed the propeller… 100, 110, 115 knots and pull back hard. Pulling 4G we get to the top of the loop. Look up, there's the ground. Check that wings are level and suddenly I'm aware of a howling draught by my legs – my door has come open. My old instructor's voice echoes in my head “just fly the damn aircraft” so I carry on with the loop, pull up into a zoom and wait for the speed to decay. Then I slam the door shut. [more...]
22 Nov 05Did you C? (2)(22 Nov 05, 1:59 PM by subsumed)
I briefly entertained the idea of sub-titling this weblog "how to get into trouble using only your mouth" but you filthy perverts out there would probably deliberately misunderstand. So no cheap thrills for you in the title, but read on, you never know your luck. [more...]
1 Nov 05Whipping up a storm (the story of my own personal cloud) (10)(15 Jan 06, 1:09 AM by Norm_de_Plume)
I'm confident that yesterday the voracious readers of IC will have read through a highly selective account of whip cracking activities somewhere in darkest Cheshire. Despite being a self-professed masochist and occasional submissive I have taken to throwing singletails in a big way. The sensuous sinuous feel of them followed by the impressive crack as the whip tears the air apart is enough to make me whet my lips in anticipation and go back for more. So it came to pass that the wimpiest Domme in the world was witness to a display [more...]
25 Oct 05Fake Doms, giant spiders and other odd tales (5)(26 Oct 05, 1:59 PM by PFLsAgain)
The more attentive of you have probably noticed that I've just returned from a week of pervy holiday making in northern France. In a news-burying exercise that the current government would be proud of, MasterBenn's tales of weather forecasting lesbian cows have strategically distracted IC from the tragedy playing out in Normandy. All you domly types out there should be sitting on the edge of your seats chewing your nails. It's not good. [more...]
