| I went to a car boot sale this morning - not a single book! Local school car park, only about eight despondent booters turned up - its how I imagine hell to be. I bought one item, a bronze outdoor wall-hangy-thingy with little mirrors inset into it. Mrs GUF was worried that birds would mistake the mirrors for little tunnels of open space and fly into them, and remembered she had some stain glass paint, so we painted the mirrors - green, yellow, red, and blue. | We've have a blackbird family nesting in a bush in the garden these last few weeks, and have been watching the parent birds tirelessly bringing worms back for their young all day long. Its been nice that nothing bad has happened to either of them, as sometimes happens - in past years we've seen nests begun then abandoned, or a father bird not come back one day and the mother bird have to work twice as hard to feed her young, but this year, so far so good, there's been no mishaps. | I was out unusually late this afternoon, at a newly discovered and hitherto unexplored hunting ground for musty old books, and didn't get home till 5.40. Shocking! I usually go out in the morning, making sure to be back home for 1.30, in time to rustle up dinner for Mrs GUF when she finishes work at 2, but today I varied my routine and didn't leave until 3. | I was relaxing on the sofa earlier tonight with Mrs GUF's head in my lap, after a very successful dinner of garlic and herb tortellini with chicken in a pesto sauce. First time I've made pesto sauce myself, pine nuts, basil, and extra virgin olive oil, and garlic, at least I think you add garlic, wasn't totally sure but I did in the end, and never experimented with pasta AND chicken before.
