UPDATE______ REPORT OFR THIS ACTION IS NOW UP HERE: http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/weblogs/Degener...

ACTION NOTICE - now two demos see the second below at parliament sq

11am

Wednesday 7th May

Near the British Library

( http://www.bl.uk/aboutus/quickinfo/loc/stp/index... The British Library is at 96 Euston Road next to King's Cross and St Pancras International stations, which are served by National Rail, First Capital Connect and London Underground. You can also use the Hammersmith and City, Piccadilly, Northern, Circle, District, Metropolitan and Victoria Underground Lines. Many bus services stop on Midland Road and Euston Road.

WHAT TO BRING:

Any erotic book which contains an image you think may be illegal under the CJIB, of consenting adults engaging in an activity which is not illegal. eg from madonna's book SEX http://www.madonna-online.ch/m-online/galleries/...

Food and drink in case we are apprehended from moving round, any medications you normally use. Bear in mind sometimes police cause people to be late home.

Material to make a placard or one you made at home... suggestions for slogans welcome.

A raincoat and plenty of warm clothes. It often rains on demos!!

Your mobile phone. and the willing to give out your real name and number so we dont lose you.

A small fire extinguisher if you own one.

A big friendly smile and your community spirit.

WHO IS WELCOME:

All adults who think that we should be able to view in private images of consensual legal adult fantasy play. All adults who believe that creating 2 million harmless criminals is just another exercise in the government picking on easy targets, whilst it struggles to track down those who are known to profit from abuse such as child porn makers.

Adults of all ages and backgrounds welcome, on an equal basis. Someone has volunteered to police liason on the day who also uses British Sign Language.

CONDUCT:

This is a peaceful NON-violent civil disobedience. There will be no tolerance of aggressive, abusive or dangerous behaviour.

SAFETY:

Everyone in attendance needs to take repsonsibility for their actions, their own health and safety and mind everyone else's. further information about this will be given on the day to anyone who turns up including a solicitors phone number in case anything goes wrong and they are arrested.

WE NEED

People to give out leaflets, people to talk to the press, people to stay back from the demo and be there to support. people to get more copies of leaflets if necessary at the last minute. people to write to MP's and Lords while we are doing the action. People to phone us on the demo and update this forum. People to answer any articles which arise.

WE ARE

AN INDEPENDENT NETWORK OF ORDINARY CITIZENS CONCERNED ABOUT THE CJIB and how it creates 2 million harmless criminals and allows police to investigate people who have never committed any offense. WHO's in CHARGE...? Nobody - we're all in charge of ourselves :)

DEMO PART DEUX - PARLIAMENT SQUARE 4:45PM

Stictly_Normal has liaised with Baroness Miller and she has suggested we can demo in Parliament Square. She recommended we speak to Charing Cross police.

I've just come off the phone with them, and it is approved. BUT - the law says 24 hours notice is required - and so we can't astart there till 4:45pm.

I have to drop off a form at Charing Cross police station about this tomorrow morning - but apart from that formality, it's approved.

So, if people at the book burning can hang about all afternoon, we can recongregate at Parliament Square (the copper said we will have to go next to Brian Haw, the Anti-Iraq War Man).

The Baroness has recommended we handcuff someone to a headboard. Does anyone have a headboard? (no point asking if anyone has handcuffs).

So - If you can't make the book burning, hopefully you can make it to Parliament Square. Bunk off work early. Go on. It's in a good cause.

MEDIA RELEASE Your Books and CDs Make You a Criminal on Thursday People to Burn Their Books on Wednesday Section 62 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act, which is due to receive Royal Assent on Thursday 8th May, prohibits the possession of 'violent', 'pornographic' images, whether or not those images are staged. This law is so vaguely worded that hundreds of thousands of unsuspecting people will be criminalised overnight, and risk a three-year-jail sentence simply for owning such mainstream books and album covers as these:

· Sex by Madonna: ISBN 0-446-51732-1 · The Mammoth Book of Erotic Photography, edited by Maxim Jakubowski and Marilyn Jaye Lewis. ISBN: 1-84119-325-9 · Sex: Take a Walk on the Wild Side (Masterpieces of Erotic Fantasy Photography) Edited by Tony Mitchell. ISBN: 1-56025-363-0 · The Dwarves Must Die (CD): The Dwarves: Sympathy. ASIN: B0002KVUX4

During the House of Lords debate on 30 April, Baroness Miller of Chilthorne Domer described this move as: “truly the domain of the thought police. These clauses are the state entering the bedrooms and minds of citizens before they commit any crime that involves harm to another human being.”

Baroness Howe of Idlicote and others in both Houses of Parliament have called for a Parliamentary Select Committee to be set up to inquire into “New Media and Violence” and consider what changes need to be made to the Criminal Justice Bill before Section 62 is enacted.

To mark this erosion of civil liberties, and to support the call for a Select Committee, soon-to-be banned books, pictures, record sleeves and digital material will be burned in a protest by ordinary citizens outside the British Library on Wednesday 7th May at 11am.

Protesters will be available for interview/comment, including to camera, both at the burning and later in the day if required.

Quick update: Degenerate is now suitably ensconsed in her hotel next to the British Library but is just nipping outside for a quick recce to suss out the best places to meet and for the Demo itself.

If anyone can arrive early then they're very welcome to join her for an early morning coffee before the Demo.

OK i am back.

just up the road from the library at my hotel.

I can't get into the courtyard cos the gates are down. a member of staff was there and very helpfully answered all sorts of questions about the courtyard (he called it a pavillion oooh:) )

it has a coffee shop with tables outside. I suggest we meet there as it's right inside the courtyard and early people can get a drink and a bite to eat :) or come over here - but prob we dont need to do that. it might be best not to be obviously there to protest until 11 tho.
