I'm impressed how many daggers, claws and lynching ropes have come out just because one journalist has told somebody to fuck off. Kudos.

Forgive my ignorance, but doesn't Sarah's response reflect exactly the current vanilla view of bdsm? My perception is that those of us in the lifestyle really tend to lose our perspective on how people outside the lifestyle perceive it - the way I once did - as disgusting and demeaning and abusive to women. Isn't it us who forget how it looks to others? And it was my own personal revelation that, until I'd experienced bdsm for myself (it happened entirely by accident, lol), I would have continued to judge adversely, without any understanding and insight. It's only once you experience it personally and positively for yourself, that you lose that prejudicial attitude against the one thing that I personally call "the last taboo" - ie the pleasure and honesty of violence/bondage/whatever-you-want-to-call-it. The poor girl; she just doesn't know what she's missing!

When you posted on this subject before, many people told you that they have rarely, if ever, suffered prejudice. Of course, the media is prone to hype and venom to boost sales. What is extraordinar here is that influential purveyor of art ia so ignorant and rude in private mail.... And Esinem was talking about an art project, not BDSM. In any event, I think those of us whose personal circumstances allow it should stand up for the scene, educate and fight prejudice when we find it. Edited 23 Jun 06, 11:32 PM by demolitionred

I have just emailed the Managing Director of Time Out about this post and have requested that he keeps me informed as to his actions. It will be interesting to see what happens in certain peoples offices as of Monday morning, I hope there are lots of desk fans around to catch some of the flack. Have fun, David London Alternative Market

Well of course as well as writing to the right people (and i leave that to those who can speak authorititively (i'm sure i've too many tits) on the subject) what we can all do of course is support the event(s). Then TO's art critic will just look silly for not reviewing a major art event. So, let's make it a success. severin of Harrow
