Ok i hold my hands up and admit i bite my nails, really badly and they do look awful but i want to stop.

i need ideas that are practical as the dummy worked for a while but wasn't practical to carry it round my neck/wrist at all times.

And for all those smart arses out there...............just don't bite isn't an option and i've tried nasty tasting products and i just get used to them.

I have nooooooooooooo willpower

Try splashing out on a manicure and get acrylic nails put on. They'll look so fabby and you won't be able to bite them. Meanwhile your real nails should be growing underneath so when they're removed you'll have kicked the habit.

Fab idea bridget. Just don't get them too long. You won't be able to do anything. I tried them once and it's the best form of self imposed chastity I've come accross.:)

I've had false nails put on before but i tend to not be able to do much once i have them on and with my job that is very awkward. Also when they come off my real nails are even weaker and kinda ugly so not much improvement unless i'm going to just keep acrylics on all the time.

Thanks for the ideas so far though :)

Perhaps you may also bite your nails when you feel stressed or threatened in some indirect way. Carrying a rabbits foot to stroke at these times may be of some help.

Something else that can work is a "reward" process. If your nails grow by a mllimetre you will buy yourself something that you would really like to have but you must be strong enough not to buy the item if there is no growth.

I used to use a dummy instead of the rabbit foot thing but i was constantly doing it as i'm always biting and i didn't want the dummy to become a new habit. But may have to try something different and see what happens.

The reward process is a good idea and may be worth a go but we can only see.

Keep 'em coming people....

Put false nails on cut short. Leave them on for a week. Take them off after a week and you will have a good growth underneath. Leave them for a day, then re-apply the nails. After 2 weeks you'll have a good set. At this point take off the nails and rub vaseline into them (trust me, it strengthens them) and leave for a while. Then use a clear varnish with hardner. VOILA!!!!:-D

Now this is something that sounds promising, i will let you know how it goes when i can get myself some falsies.

Don't know if any of this would work for you ..... just a few thoughts.

Be well
