One of my closest friends...perhaps my closest, needed a little help tonight.
Now, this is someone who has never failed me, she can say more with one sentance than paragraphs of advise from most.
even if she has to say harsh things.
But it's a fair exchange, when needed I've been there for the late night companionship.
She has a job inteview coming up. So, listened to her presentation tonight, timed it, offered opinion, (critism is not neccessarly negative)... and quite frankly was more stressed than her!
It was great - I'm so proud of her, I learnt new things about her my self. She'll knock 'em dead, just by being herself.
BUT, then came a paniced call - she had opened the self assessment form - literally hundreds of questions. Grade yourself from one to three on various areas of knowledge, and give brief justification for each... in a box only big enough for a few words.
Seems life typical corporate rollocks to me, but had her stressed.
I'm lucky enough to have stumbled through a few interviews in my time and have always got the jobs I wanted, so tried to help - find the right confidence boosting words -
Interviews are two way things; they have to impress you and make you want to work there as well, your personallity is the most important thing; you have the knowledge, I know without a doubt you can do this, you are perfect, you'll shine etc.
And I believe that. It's a Teacher Training position she is going for. I've seen her with her daughter enough to know how she can inspire, capture a child's imagination. She will be bloody brilliant! And she has the knowledge; she's taught me enough in casual conversation for me to know that.
But finding the right words were hard. Her presentation was insipring; but the dry 'grade yourself' forms were dispiriting. I hate those things.
How could I find the words to say how good she would be; how it's a training vaccancy she is going for - they won't expect her to be perfect, but her natural ability, enthusiasm and intelligence would shine through?
I wish I was more cleverer than wot I was; that I could inspire as much as she can and will.
Hope I helped. Good luck honey.

The fact she called you, the fact you tried, the fact you put in effort shows you did help! Much as we want to walk in someone elses shoes sometimes to take the stress off of them and feel the pain for them. The best thing to do is just facilitate them to stand on their own feet, sounds like you did that.

Thank you, Miz Fatale. We talk most days; just wanted to let her know how I've seen her capture her child's imagination with something as simple as a spoon. Was quite hooked my self actually. She is a natural, when she said her bit on Haemoglobins tonight I was inspired. She should walk it; they'd be daft not to employ her. She just needed a little positive praise.
Now, if I can just get her to dump the boyfriend and find a supply of Rohypnol I'll be happy too. (Joke! Go Team S&M! | |
