The munch by which all other munches should be judged……… (3)

In my humble opinion anyway. It being my first munch, I would say my opinion is pretty humble.

The York Munch is held in a private function room of the Winning Post pub. Good location, easy parking. I did however come unstuck when trying to find the function room. I wandered into the pub to be faced with 3 blokes playing pool. I asked them where the function room was (after a few seconds wondering what the etiquette was, I mean; does one ask where the Munch is?!?) one of them responded 'are you looking for the munch love' – etiquette question answered.

I was greeted at the door to the room by a friendly face and introduced to a really nice couple who were quite happy to chat to me even though I didn't really have anything at all to say.

The topic of the evening was body modification and a brief talk was given by a local specialist in the art. This of course meant that all sorts of piercing in all kinds of places was a fairly hot topic of conversation amongst the many people I was introduced to. A few people even offered to show me their piercing's – now you can't get friendlier than that can you.

The York Munch (who pride themselves on being a friendly welcoming lot and did live up to the hype) have a Christmas 'do' planned which should be a hoot and there is also a night at Nemesis for newbies organised by www.yorkshirebdsm.org.uk which I want to get to.

At the risk of it being a complete cliché, it's fair to say that I was made welcome and everyone was really nice – but it's actually true! If I may indulge myself in another cliché by comparing the York Munch to a fine wine: 'fruity but not pretentious' – yes, that just about sums them up!

I had a fun time with an interesting mix of characters, personalities and persuasions, all together in one place to share their collective perversions. No reason not to go again really; except I rather stupidly agreed to model in a friends charity fashion show some weeks ago and try as I might I can't be in two places at the same time. The next one I'll have to miss, but barring illness, accident or meteor showers, I'll be there for the one in June.

Many thanks to all of the people I met, particularly Calic, Nikki, beainabonnet and ZakRLee for making it a memorable evening. See you in June.

The York Munch

Glad you enjoyed you're first munch. York is good isn't it. Well attended these days, and a good venue.

Perhaps you will be seen at some other munches as well.

The older I grow the more I recall how little I knew when I knew it all.

Thank you June for a lovely accolade.

As one of the managers of the York Munch, we all work hard to make it a very inclusive place. I recall going ot my first york munch in 2001 and was not made to feel at all welcome, so I avoided it for 2 years. I hate cliques and we have strove to ensure new men and woman who come to our meetings are warmly welcomed, talked to with genuine interest and introduced to people with whom thry can talk.

We are famous for our occasional Icebreaker games which are always fun and designed to get all people new and old to get to know each other.

And since we can sometimes get almost 50 people together on a Wednesday night, some folk coming from Newcastle, Durham, Stockton, Doncaster, Leeds and Skipton tells us we must be doing something right. Also, we get a great mix of ages and a good balance of men and women too.

If anyone wants to know more about the York Munch , we have our own dedicated website where you can join:

http://www.yorkmunch.org.uk

When - this is held on the 2nd Wednesday night of each month.

Time - 8pm start, until chucking out time at the pub! Sometimes people even go on elsewhere - some food being a popular choice

Venue - the private function room at the Winning Post pub, at 173 Bishopthorpe Road, York YO23 1NZ. A nice friendly relaxed venue!!!

Thank you for posting this. I hope any other 'munch virgins' reading this will feel emboldened to visit their first munch - especially if it is York. ;-)

I would (of course) endorse everything that Kira has said about our munch, except to add that May munch is this Wednesday the 10th. We will have an update on our chriS&Mas party and yet another important announcement, this time concerning our summer party plans.

A real shame we will not be seeing you there this time flamingjune but to the rest of you... be there or be square!

Be safe
