today (as i am no longer entitled to carers allowance for looking after a disabled relative due to the appeal for DLA being reduced to low rate care and am not entitled damn) i decided to do something constructive

i called the local college who are now going to send me out an application form as i wanna do something (not quite sure what yet)

its a toss up between Beauty therapy / photography/ hairdressing or something like that

now i will be a mature student and havent a clue about things..

if i go for an NQ i may be entitled to a bursary...but will this affect housing benefit?

if i go for the HNC it will be a student loan and will that affect housing benefit?

if i go to college...and dont apply for either bursary or loan...will it affect any benefits?

oh gods i dont have a clue...

amarya the hopeful...or should that be hopeless

For the Beauty Therapy part, it's best to start off on the nc, and it shouldn't affect your housing benefit. The nc will give you all the basics, from Facials, manicures, pedicures, Anatomy and Physiology. I am not sure if you can go straight to a HNC without first having completed the nc, as the last time I was at college I was told they are bringing in steps now that you have to go through all the levels.

HNC will feel like you are repeating some of the stuff from the first year, but it only touches on it and if you go into it and other women have worked up to it then you may well find your lapsing because of their advancement.

I'd go for the nc option because that shouldn't muck about too much with your benefits. If you like it so much then advance further knowing you definately like it. Safer option.

chhers...i think i wanna walk before i run...so that will prob be the best option...

Sure you will do whatever you feel is right, perhaps you can go to the college and ask to speak to a tutor for advice?
