OK, i need some advice from one or more of you lovely people...
I have a chest freezer (not for freezing chests with Dean, no)that has died and taken the contents with it. I called the insurance people today and they have said something specific has to have happened to it for me to claim, as I'm not covered for general wear and tare.
They suggested i get an engineer out to look at it, just in case something specific has happened to it so i can make a claim. I can claim for the contents, but need to claim for the freezer too. I've never in my life claimed for anything so this is all new to me. I can't get an engineer till next week some time, so while I'm waiting and the food inside is slowly continuing to rot, what do you think COULD have happened to it? And i don't mean aliens having interfered with it or anything, i really could do with some serious suggestions.
Take pity on me and bestow me with your advice...

I think they may just suggest that i plug it back in again though. The freezer isn't freezing anymore, so i need it replaced. Loved up, toe tapping, raspberry blowing, bum pinching, sarcastic, daft as a brush, 30gig, wriggling, kinkster.

But wouldn't that be classed as general wear and tear? Better to be in the warm body of a friend than in a cold hole in the ground...

Hi there... Does it run at all ?? If it doesn't then blame the comp motor as Chord says if on the other hand it runs but won't get cold tell them the pipe off the comp has rusted through and the gas has escaped but only say this if it's still able to run as this will more than likely be the truth. Most of the time they don't question the fault as it's not worth the while or money to send out an man to inspect. Good luck Navare.x

Always check the obvious first. Check to see if other appliances on the same floor are working. If not, then reset the trip out switch or replace the fuse at the junction board. Try plugging a hair dryer or some portable appliance into the socket that supplies the freezer to see if power is getting through. Check the fuse in the plug. Replace it with a new fuse of the same rating. Do you hear the compressor running ? If not, the compressors defunct And if your freezer is more than 12 months old...no claim. Have you been poking at lumps of ice with the bread knife ? If so, you may have punctured an artery and allowed the gas to escape in which case you can claim that you accidentally left the lid open and a wayward arctic rat got inside and gnawed irresponsibly..in with a slim chance here. How old is the freezer ?
