Can anybody recommend a book/s to introduce a lady to BDSM? (17)

This post is on the SM/Bondage/Fetish web board.

A lady friend was wondering what BDSM was all about and asked me did I know any books on the subject as she is a keen reader. I've read a few but there's nothing like asking a large group for their opinions. Eager to find a representative text on the subject, and possibly awaken a desire, I'm putting this question out to everybody.

Can anybody recommend a good book aimed at introducing women to BDSM? A book written by a woman for women could be an advantage.

The Topping Book and The Bottoming Book are good first reads for either gender. Presented in a fun way and very informative.

These are my favourite sites:
www.londonfetishscene.com www.unfettered.co.uk (Kinkfest 3 is 28th and 29th July 06, btw!) www.backlash-uk.org.uk www.smartgroups.com/groups/Backlash
but anything outrageous I say is my own opinion!

"the Sexually Dominant Woman, a workbook for nervous beginners" by Lady Green. - is a really gentle book that fits this description, my wife got on with it very well.

Agree with Ariane, The Topping Book & The Bottoming Book are very good, fun, easy to read. Both by Dossie Easton & Catherine Liszt. Ms Liszt also writes under the name Lady Green....

I also like Sensuous Magic by Pat Califia & Different Loving by Gloria Brame - although neither of these are "how-to" style books.

Claudia Varrin has a whole range of books out - I don't much like her style, as she has a tendency to go on about the superiority of what she terms "the Perverati" over other SMers who don't fit her boxes, but different strokes suit different folks....

Amazon stocks all her work: The Art of Sensual Female Dominance; The Female Dominant: Games She Plays; Female Dominance: Rituals & Practices; and Erotic Surrender: The Sensual Joys of Female Submission

Happy reading.

The best books I have read, that I identify with, are written by Elise Sutton (EliseSutton.com - try real life stories to begin, but remember some may find it a bit over the top, not much British - more American) The book is great you can get hard copy or e.book

Female Dominance - Rituals and Practices by Claudia Varrin, there is alot of good information in there, something will be in your taste.

I have been unable to get a copy of her first book, if anyone knows where to get one, I would be very grateful - The Art of Sensual Female Dominance: A guide for Women.

for god sake dont give her one of those "how do do sm" type books, they are awful

try "sensual magic" my pat califa if you can find a copy

its aimed at introducing a vanilla partner to bdsm fantasies

get your partner to open up to her ideas before you start giving her instruction manuals into fulfilling yours

if you fulfill some of her fantasies, she'll be much more open to talking about yours.. think long term :-)

do some careful probing into finding her orientation - most people have one even if they are not currently aware of it - build on her ideas first. Once the door is opened the pandoras box effect kicks in :-)

introducing someone to bdsm is best achived with very small steps

A Defence of Masochism by Anita Phillips is a great read. Written by a bright, happy, together and talented writer who explores her own masochism.

Geography is history.

SM101: A Realistic Introduction – Jay Wiseman

Screw the Roses, Send me the Thorns: The Romance and Sexual Sorcery of Sadomasochism – Phillip Miller & Molly Devons

Both books are excellent. SM101 lives up to the title in every respect and Screw the Roses is witty, packed full of information and co-written by a woman. Amazon keep them both but Screw the Roses took weeks to arrive – it was worth the wait!

I disagree. SM101 is my other recommendation. Very informative of the mechanics of many things. I'm thinking back to when I first started and knew nothing.
