Hi to all who attended the Leeds munch on saturday, hope you all enjoyed it ![]()
Anyway.. What i'm looking for is opinions on the venue..
We KNOW that it's not ideal since the bar is downstairs, and the room is upstairs, but at least it's private!
The room we normally use was being decorated, hence we were in room 2 - typical on the day i forget the posters!
However, as from last saturday, ALL the rooms at the venue have become non-smoking.
Please let me know if you're a smoker/non smoker, and if you think we should stay in the venue for the time being, and accept the non-smoking rule. Or if we should be looking elsewhere. (any suggestions?)
Please give reasons, and bear in mind that, theoretically, ALL places will be non-smoking from next year anyway.
*hugs*

I smoke, only socially. I attended the Leeds munch when the venue was held upstairs and one of the memories I have is of the smoke hanging in the room. I doubt I'd go to the Leeds munch again, friendly and crowded as it was, because of the distance now but I'd have been happy not to smoke to improve the atmosphere.
If I want your opinion, I'll give it to you.

Up here in sunny Jockoland all munches are now no smoking. It doesn't seem to have made any difference to the numbers, and the rooms are a lot more pleasant. I am in favour of the munch staying non smoking. Science, the only religion that works even if you don't believe in it.

I'm a non-smoker so the no smoking rule doesn't really effect me. I think that La Sensa has it's plus points, i.e. it is a private room without much chance of interuption and in the city centre and seeing as they are decorating the room, the decor will hopefully be very much improved! The place is also free of charge to us. However, as has been pointed out, the bar is downstairs but I don't think that it's really so much hardship to walk down a flight of stairs for a pint! For the Leeds munch to be moved, we would really need something pretty spectacular for it to be worth the move but never say never. Keep your eyes peeled peeps and if you have any suggestions let Ros know. t x

I simply went down into the bar when I eventually gave in to my cravings. I was doing that anyway for drinks and food so it wasn't a great deal diffrent. I think it was fine without smoking. Currently trying to give up so that may colour my oppinion. I also like to hang onto the belief that I control the cigarettes, not the other way round (fool I know). Stay there - its a good venue .

I'm a smoker, but really don't mind if the munch remains non-smoking. In a room that size it would have been revolting, and it was quite nice popping outside a couple of times! I still don't like the venue very much, but thought the smaller room actually meant people didn't stay in the usual clumps and it encouraged people to socialise. I certainly talked to a lot more unknown faces than I have previously at Censsa. I've passed your details on to the people I was talking about anyway, and hope it'll prove useful in some way, even if you decide not to change the munch venue. la fée verte

I am a non smoker and very much enjoyed the clean air but of course I am sure many smokers wouldnt agree. Assuming the law changes as proposed all public venues will become smoke free by mid 2007.

I only smoke when I'm at a munch/event etc and did miss not being able to smoke, however I didn't miss it enough to want to go outside/downstairs. In fact it was lovely to leave and not be reeking of cigarette smoke for the rest of the day! The venue itself has good and bad points .. its easy to find in the city centre and good for those with no transport of their own. Having a private room is great though the layout of the room doesn't encourage people to mingle, though probably not a great deal that can be done about that. Going downstairs to get drinks I don't find a problem at all. So .. all in all .. I'd say leave the munch where it is, it'll be no smoking next year anyway and the chances of finding somewhere so central with a private room I'd have thought would be slim. x |
