Yes, the trouble is in detecting the flavour ;) Though that is better than Canadian Beer, which just tastes like piss!

Lady I and I played for the first time at this months Subversion. Since we had not played together before, she wanted to carefully monitor my reactions, but the music was so loud she couldn't hear me screaming! Which was a shame.

We had to go sit by the front door to have a conversation and I couldn't make myself understood at the bar.

We did have a good time, and it was an enjoyable evening, and I enjoy some music, but it was so loud it spoiled it a bit for us.

franny.

Can you Film this?

On the issue of clubs, I'm with Mistress Raven in that I like to play to music. However, it does anoy me if there is loud dance music, as it does intrude and you can't socialise easily. I also find that the D/s dynamic can be very exciting if you keep instructions to your sub quiet and loud music does prevent that.

Because of that, I like the Hades approach a lot. I can do my 'thing' in the edgeplay room with atmospheric background music, but the upbeat music in the main dungeon is nice for when you are chilling and still not banging. But if I'm up for a boogie, then there's a separate room to do so and it even played Rock at the last one!

I have a thing about BDSM clubs, in that I think it needs to be an event on it's own, and if it is lumped with Disco this tends to destroy a lot of the enjoyment. Half the fun I think is in the sounds made by those enjoying themselves. If these are drowned out by music then for me, this is quite off putting. This is one reason why I find nemesis so attractive aside from its atmosphere and excellent staff. What do other players think on this score?
For me, music can help set the scene, although it has to be the right kind of music. Anything with a distinct beat, or that I really do not like tends to naturally detract from the scene.

Scarlett's have the right idea towards venue design for this. Where the dungeon is deliberately set apart from dancefloor, and the music is hence muted by this seperation. Now if only they can add more alternative tracks, rather than electro/trance.

Musically, Enigma are always good (Although not on repeat), along with the slower tracks by Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails (ALA Personal Jesus, and Terrible Lie respectively), or anything by Garbage.

I think music at a level that can be talked or groaned over is essential for mood, and seeing that different venues provide various music types (particularly in London I've found) it means one can pick and choose a little. But I acknowledge that some clubs do concentrate more energy on the dance scene - which is fair enough if that's what people want.

Absolutely agree. To me, playing is such a personal thing that going to a club to specifically do this holds no interest.

I love dancing & music so maybe that's why I always seem to end up at Club Rub!

We prefer to dance rather than play at clubs, but we like TG because we can dress up in fetish gear and and i can dance on the end of a chain lead without anyone being shocked or laughing, which is what would happen in a normal dance club.
