My Great Aunt died in august 2004 two months before her 102nd birthday, we buried her in accordance with her wishes in a very pleasant cemetry not far from where she had lived for many years.
We ordered a memorial stone, a simple white marble plaque as befits a maiden aunt. We had to wait for the soil to settle, so the memorial was to be set up this month. Then the Company was to send us a photograph of it installed, for our approval.
I have spent the day driving down to Lewes, to see my Great Aunt's memorial stone. The company that was to install it has sent us the photograph of it installed, so My Father and I collected Auntie's best friend and went to visit the grave with flowers.
After driving down and collecting our guest, we had a very pleasant lunch, and drove to the cemetry. We searched dilligently for the marker, and found auntie where we left her, but no memorial on her grave.
We found a functionary of the cemetry, and he confirmed by the paperwork that the memorial had been installed, and the correct grave. My Father now very upset phoned the memorial masons, and spoke to the workshop junior, who denied all knowledge.
After taking a VERY upset lady home, we came home in a very sombre mood. I was all for visiting the mason and giving them a seeing to, but I suppose Dad was right, best let him deal with it.
Sorry about the depressing tone, I am really pissed off.
Hugs, (But not to the mason)
Irene.

That's appalling. If it wern't such a sensitive topic it would be funny. But it isn'tfunny, it's just another display of typical British indifference. I do hope you get it sorted out . Slavery died, but Dixie Rocks on. |
