OK two followups to my Theatre Royal blog
a) A nice email from the Development Manager from Theatre Royal has invited me along to look at plans and visit the site - I get to wear a hard hat.
b) Took the kids to the Robinson Crusoe - Jungle Pantomime. It was held in 'The Big Top' since the theatre is out of action.
OK, we hate Pantos don't we children? - Oh yes we do. Oh no we don't. Oh yes we do.
I feel I ought to hate them. I mean it's not very sophisticated is it? - Oh yes it is. Oh no it isn't. Oh yes it is. Oh shut up!
Perhaps I am just going soft in the middle as I head of towards pension land. I mean when you are 5 a panto is fun but by the time you are 13 it's just embarrassing isn't it? Oh yes it is. Oh no.. For Christ sake give over.
At what point did such slapstick and innuendo change from being just painfully sad to quaintly endearing? Well whatever and whenever the Bury St Edmunds Theatre Royal Pantomime was ripping fun this year, even better than last year's.
Martha (the cook) Panto dame was damned good (2nd time I have seen him/her). Hunky Munkey acrobats provide a nice twist with beautiful aerial acrobatic ropework - quite beautiful, like a dance in the sky (awe) and it has ropes and we like ropes. Oh yes we do... silence.
Quote of the day from my 12 year old daughter on a comment made by her 14 year old brother "Daddy, Brother's stupid! He says Martha the cook is a man"
What we need on IC is our own Panto. Can feel the ground shake as stampede starts for role of Panto Dame...
He's inside you! Oh no he isn't. Oh yes he is. Oh no he isn't. Oh yes he is...Oh yes.. Oh yes.. yes. yes yes!!

I absolutely love the escapism of panto & take the children every year. Last year I didn't go, due to unforseen events, like discovering.....never mind. This year though, I took my children & my bbd to his first ever panto. Strange he hasn't told me what he thought of it yet...... Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the theatre refurb after you've had a look. Also good to hear from you after such a long break. Best wishes

i think panto should never be ignored, a extremly magical event for children and a good bit of escapism for adults, every bit as important to culture as opera or a noel coward play

Oh yes you can!. And since I am now casting director, no one is allowed to say "Oh no they can't" -- Marcus Strapp

Lucky!!! Some things that my Bbd & I do together are most definitely not open for the public discussion & pls's fairy wings are part of that!!! Honestly, I've blogged about a messy bed already today, can't a lady have some privacy??? (secretly excited by the thought of both of us in sparkly tights prancing around!)

Can i be the cat? Even if we're not doing Dick Whittington i want to be the cat! Remember -- A good friend will come and bail you out of jail... But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Damn... that was fun!"

Will the lady bring round refreshments during the interval? Can I have an ice-cream tub with a little wooden spoon? |
