My NY resolution was to get more involved in the scene and I think it's the first NY resolution I've ever achieved. My move to London in April certainly helped.

My first munch was the Docklands munch and I used it to find new friends in the London area. Fortunately I met a very good friend and we have stayed in touch ever since :-)

Since been to a couple of other munches; U35's (It was Ok - I was a bit late) and the London munch (not really my cup of tea, but it was a very hot day and a very small room)

Go and try it! If you like it try others. If you're not keen try a different one.

I went on my own, the hardest thing is walking in. Get yourself a drink and say "I'm [insert appropriate], do you mind if I sit here?" It really is as easy as that.

Have fun :-)

I went to my first munch just before Xmas and had a wonderful time. The people were all incredibly friendly, good fun and keen to help you out if you had any questions.

To ease my way in to the larger munch I went along to, I asked someone that I chat to on here, who has regularly answered any questions I may have had, to meet up with me before hand and introduce me to others. That way, even though you are still meeting someone new, you kind of know a bit more about them and are happy to chat with them.

I would certainly recommend going. As a newbie, it will give you a greater network of people to ask questions of, chat to and who you can then go along to other things with. Following my munch, I am now intending to go fetish shopping with a lovely young lady I met, and then possibly going to a club with her and her Dom. So a whole world of opportunity is now opening up.

Make the most of it .... enjoy all the "firsts", because they only come round once lol

How was your first munch??

I have been thinking (and fantasying) about getting more in to BDSM and I'm trying to convince myself to go to my first munch in the New Year.

I live just outside London and i was looking for some stories of peoples first munch, did you go alone, did you drag some friends along. What did you wear did you just sit on the edge.

I'd love to also hear which are the best munches in London?

Here in Holland we don't know the munch as such so i am thinking about going myself to one in the London area.Haven't decided yet but was planning earlier to go to the one in Holborn.Maybe it's a nice idea to go with a bunch of newbies and gatecrash one of the London munches.Anybody interested?

It's always going to be a bit scary exploring a field which holds such dark fascination - I was fantasising about bondage for years before I found there are like-minded people in this very town and started trying to meet them. It took me a while to come to terms with physically talking about it, but once you realise they're all just as kinky as you are it does make it a lot easier!

My first munch was London, back in May. I found it a bit hard to click with anyone because everyone seemed to know each other, and it was very crowded. I persevered though, and went to Kinkfest 2 where I had some nice chats with people, and had a very fab time in the rope demo area (see pic opposite!). Since then I've discovered the regional munches which are much more conversation-friendly, and I've formed a really solid base of friends.

I heartily recommend being brave, getting out there, being yourself and talking to people. :)

My first munch was great. I spoke with lots of people, and afterwards was invited to a play party, which again was good.

My second munch, somewhere else, wasn't so good. Only a couple of people spoke to me, and I was rather glad to leave.

So they vary. I think one of the contributory factors to whether they are newbie-friendly or not is the way the seating is laid out. The best arrangement is one where nobody is too far away from anybody else; that way it's possible for the newbie to get involved in conversations without barging his way into what looks like a private group.
