I have to go to work and I am not going to leave the title unattended for fear of causing offence in my absence.. so by popular demand the title changes.
The truth - I am saddened - because I feel no closer to a truth that I was after. My question still stands though, because I have know what it is like to have to hide one's own minority status. I think I value empathy over sympathy.

The inflammatory title Where are the <insert derogatory word for "black">? Where are the <insert derogatory word for "physically disabled">? Forgive me the title, but yes I'm after your attention on this one. On the 9:15 to London the other day it dawned on me, that through all my trawling of the IC personals I have never come across an advert from a black or physically disabled woman. Why? I have not read every advert. My search settings are set to look only for sub bitches in the UK. But nevertheless, I get the feeling that black and/or disabled women seem to be less well represented in IC than in the train that took me to London. Why? The same goes for my visits to the few kink events I have attended. I have my theories. I'll hold on to them for now as I don't want to prejudice any response. -- Marcus Strapp |

I think perhaps the title does need changing; if the content requires attention be creative, not offensive.
You are intelligent enough and definately articulate enough to be able to create an attention capturing headline without sensationalism that would be more commonly found in the Daily Sport!

Hi Marcus,very interesting blog and i've to admit it;there not many of them around or they don't feel the need to be open about it.In other words dress up and go to Kinkwhatever.com!But they are represented and there are a few of them on IC.And i mean a colored women.As for disabled they are even more invisible but again i think they are out there.Seems to me that when you have a disability it's rather cumbersome to dress up in appropriate clothes,which are often...well different from other clothes and go to an event and join in.Never heard about disabled-friendly equipment!They keep more to themselves and probably enjoy it on a 1-to-1 basis instead sharing it with the world.
For a black woman there might be other issues playing but i have to give it some thought before i continue this discussion.Quite new to me and never realy thought about it it this context.

It's hard to ... but disregarding that, maybe I'm missing something, but the personal ad settings don't seem to include a question on race/ethnicity or disability, so how would you know?

I didn't know people had to announce that sort of status. Has it occured to you that both those things (and I, too, object to the words you used... but it got my attention, which proves it worked) are irrelevant for postings? Society puts enough labels on us as it is, hell we even do it to each other. The Internet is a great leveller when it comes to physical features, that's why many people use it. judy

Oh Gosh! This was really really intended as twisted humour. I am not 'ist' in any way. Racist, Ageist, Sexist or any other ist other than perhaps inteolerrance-ist. I was hoping to provoke a response by having an *apparently* antagonistic title. The question is genuine. The adds I have browsed are from a relative narrow section of society. I grew up in an environment far more cosmopolitan than Cambridge where I find myself now. Quite frankly I miss the mix. I'll change the title if people really think I ought to. I'll change the title if a single disabled or black person asks me too. BUT more significant to me is that offence I have cause so far is still voiced only by the able bodied whites.
