Well,
I have finally got around to seeing what this weblog thingy is all about. I am not sure what it will mean to me but here goes....
As a professional in the UK BDSM/fetish scene I am wondering as to how worried we should be about the proposed new law prohibiting the possession of images of 'extreme' violence for sexual gratification.
The term 'extreme' is so vapid as it is wholely subjective and depends on the person viewing the image.
To me an image like this one is totally acceptable as it it was taken during filming for our web site and the lady in question is not only a professional submissive but also really enjoyed the filming.
To another, more puritan or feminist-minded, person it shows a woman being 'abused' by a male and something to justify me being pilloried.
At present the proposed law is using the examples of images depicting severe physical harm which could prove a charge of grievous bodily harm.
By the nature of this 'Government', and it's pandering to left-wing softy pressure groups, I am very concerned that the law will be watered down so that any image depicting even a consensual mild 'assault', e.g. a spanking or mild/moderate caning could be made illegal and that a lot of people with innocent leanings towards BDSM and spanking will be placed at risk of either being blackmailed or made social outcasts by this misguided and sorry piece of legislation.
I say misguied and sorry piece of legislation as it panders to the do-gooders whilst doing absolutely nothing to protect the innocent victims of violence from those with mental problems whilst it it will alienate and criminalise the innocent.
The pressure for this law comes from a sad case where a young lady was murdered by a man with known mental ill-health problems who was accessing extreme sadistic material via the Internet. No UK-only law is going to prevent that happening aqain as the majority of that material is produced and hosted outside of UK jurisdiction.
The Home Office themselves admit there is no conclusive evidence to prove any causal link between persons of normal mental health seeing images of sexual deviancy and any inreased risk of harm to others.
Those with mental health or personality problems will not be deterred by the thought of being caught with images on their PC. What will happen is that many people will suffer for having images on their computers who would never pose any threat to anyone.
What this legislation will give this 'government' is the right to seize and examine computers owned by anyone if they suspect that they may have images of 'extreme' BDSM acts on them. This is major step against civil liberties and one that must be stopped.
