alt.com - ripoff? (14)

sadistical's profile . sadistical's homepage

Posted by sadistical on Fri 27 May 05, 10:22 PM to sadistical's blog.

A long time ago I joined alt.com, figuring that it was a more 'meeting site' than anything else.

I looked through all the adverts for people that were "close" to me. I then read their profiles to make see if they were looking for somebody at least comptible with me (ie. ruling out people looking for women/older guys/younger guys).

After all this 'research' I sent every matching profile a single message to the people who looked like matches.

I got one response.

Each message was unique, tailored to what they'd written, and didn't start with 'kneel bitch/slave-boi'.

So .. I'm still looking for random play, though I wouldn't rule out a relationship with the right person.

Whilst I've made a few nice friends here, both online and in the flesh, there's nothing really 'happening'. I think I need more personal, perhaps I should be going to the munches/clubs - but then there's the 'single dom male' syndrome.

I'm tempted to re-join, but I figure things are the same still, right? Nowadays it seems like you have to pay real cash money to use the site too :S

Decisions descisions ...

Hmmm this is just a whiney post isn't it? I'll stop soon, but one question to anybody reading: Has anybody any good experiences to report with alt.com, or similar sites? Any tips? Should I just post gorgeous photos of myself and wait for them to come? Should I just go get drunk?

All done now, thanks for reading! My 100th entry!

i agree, i did the same but as a male sub, nobody would take me seriously, did chat some but they were all incredibly serious, and i suspect pro, nothing happened with either of the people i met through that. i think there's more chance of You meeting someone through here?

Sorry to hear that. There seems to be an implicit pecking order where male subs are at the bottom of the heap because there are so many of them - and that female subs are the prize.

I've suspected that some of the people posting there were expecting payment - but as somebody not inclined to submissive positions I didn't really do more than think cynically about it.

It'd be a sad state of affairs if that really were the case. Bad enough to have to pay now to send messages then discover that your potential partners were expecting to be paid too.

I like this site, it works nicely with the boards and the searching. I guess the only downside to it is the lack of numbers - but we can't blame anybody for that. There are lots of people here from London, as you'd expect, and a disappointing number of members from (for example) Fife. Without a critical mass it gets hard to find "local" people - for various values of local.

It was free previously, but now it seems you have to join to be able to send replies.

You can also pay premiums to allow other free members to send you messages, and do other things.

Seems like bondage.com - which has become incredibly restrictive nowadays unless you give them money.

I'm not averse to paying money for sites which are useful and well designed, but I object strongly at sites which try to force you to join, reminding you every five seconds that you're free.

A few years back it was a free site and it was on there that I met the man that is still now my partner. Either I was incredibly lucky (as he was one of the first men I approached), or I managed to meet the only Dom with a sense of humour. I had emailed him asking him to take a look at my profile when it was infact switched off. Anyway, seems to me the odds are firmly stacked against the men on this one. Kinda balances out the rest of life.

I dont think you are being whiney at all about alt.com. In fact it great to see someone else that has the same views about the place.

I am just sorry I didn't use this site when I first joined. I am amased how friendly the people are in here. It feels good to be able to chat people and knowing that you can make friends here.

The only people I came across on alt last year all turned out to be those with a few too many loose screws to be considered safe to meet let alone anything else :-(.

Perhaps there was a full moon, lol, but whatever the reason for it, I don't log in there anymore.

Cream eggs are a hard limit!

i kind of like alt - ive met many people from there who are now real life friends and ive also met a couple of very special Doms. They now have groups you can join too, set up by members for either locations or interest, eg, Hertfordshire Group etc.

Maybe ive been lucky, but i like it *smiles*
