With the recent tirades by some against a portion of people involved in some way with the scene, and the advice given to "get out there" by myself and others, i thought I'd start a thread about munches - the first port of call that i send any newbie that asks for advice to.
As people are scared of their first munch, then the best thread i could come up with is this one So what is your most memorable munch experience, where, when, etc?
(I'll post mine in a little bit - as it's going to sound like "blowing my own trumpet"). osc --- my stories at http://members.tripod.com/~oscagne

Hi Oscagne
The obvious lack of contributions here either points to a) serious hang-overs from the various good-friday activities (lol) or b) to the lack of memorable Munches I don't hope the later is true as I intend to attend my first Munch sometime in April... Looking forward to your stories though

The first munch I ever attended, in a barn of a pub in Birmingham before attending the Bridge for the first time. What struck me was the friendly atmosphere, the sense of release (maybe that was just me!) and excitement that built throughout the hours. I loved the conversations flowing back and forth on every subject one could imagine, with BDSM thrown around in the same relaxed manner. Subsequent munches held when myself and my partner ran the Lincolnshire BDSM (now BDSM Lincolnshire) munches. Sadly, my partner's ill health has prevented us from attending the gatherings for a long time, but the first one we organised that started with ourselves and a dog, and ended up with 27 crammed into a "snug" was one of many highlights. Another was someone wearing a gas mask knocking out floggers, or racing vibrating nipple clamps... It came as no surprise to find that after some time the pub where the munches are still held booked the area in the name of "The usual suspects"! BethTVMistress

mmm. replying to ones own post.. Sure there's something under the catagory about nettiquette that says that's wrong - oh well Most memorable munch... Second Aylesbury munch - Jan (or Feb) 1999 (god is it really that long ago). Expecting 30ish, at one point counted over 70. I met my then Dominant for the first time there, and in general everyone had fun, mixing with the regulars as the place filled up. We sneaked off with some friends at 5pm (we started at about 12:30pm) for dinner at a near by resturant. On way from resturant to a friends house (we were house-sitting that night), called in to get petrol. Bumped into a then couple (who i believe met at the previous Aylesbury munch, but have now parted ways - unlike the other couple who met at the first Aylesbury munch who i believe are now parents - god what am i responsible for???) also filling up with petrol - who had just left the munch with at least 20 people out of the 70 still in the pub apparently.
Thinking back to that one also makes me smile, to have ensured so many people had such a fun afternoon, and that it kept going even after sneaking off Did a courtesy call to the pub on the Monday - half the menu wasn't available, and a comment from the landlady about not leaving the kitchen all saturday afternoon (to which i dutifully apologised for having so many people - much more then we had warned them about), to which she said something along the lines of "why apologise, we've never taken so much on a saturday afternoon before". Alas, being only on occassional thing, the next (third) Aylesbury munch was held at another venue (same one as the first munch), and was literally the weekend before i left Aylesbury. Otherwise, we'd have done it again the follow Jan/Feb i'm sure...

Norwich Munch has had some very memorable moments.
One that sticks in the mind was when some rugby lads in the straight bar heard we had pizza and asked if they could have some. The bar owner (a woman who has been known to wear a maid outfit on our nights) told them they would have to take swats for it. So they queued up to have a swat, and were quickly trying to outdo each other on what they could take. I told one of them to drop 'em and he did, right there in the pub, and 2 of us had a field day with him. He said he didn't even get any pizza, but he obviously managed to impress his friends. On another occasion in the pub we used to go to, a birthday party was happening in a part of the pub where you could see through to our bit. 3 separate people came over to our room because they knew people in our group. The classic was the innocent girl who knew my partner. She came over and sat with us, and slowly started noticing that people were dressed in a lot of PVC, leather, etc. We explained. She ran. But she came back and asked questions.I still wonder whose birthday it was. Needless to say the Norwich Munch is pretty open. Ariane |
