It was previously suggested that Windows 8 would not allow Linux to be installed alongside it. Microsoft have gone a step further in specifying that ARM [the microprocessor manufacturer]devices must not be left open for their owners to install Linux alongside them.
Microsoft claim this is to prevent rootkits or other malware being loaded at boot time but Linuxware is not alone in having strong suspicions of Microsoft's anti-competitive attitude. It will be interesting to see what the EU makes of this practice when Windows 8 is released and complaints arise.

They are already in enough trouble.Due to a virus hidden in a piece of text, there is a call to ban windows7 mobile phones to be banned. The virus switches off phones and is a security problem. If enough people complain to the relevent EU commission etc then microsoft can be drag before them.In the meantime a writing campaign aimed at Obama,to get this company under control or face loss of business etc.Maybe this will put Microsoft in its place. http://empressm7.uboot.com/ http://www.socialkink.com/empressmartine Vampire, pro/lifestyle ts dom/switch.Ageplay mummy/aunty/AB,medical play, domestic, energy, outdoor specialist."Who you calling"@?!;:$£<Σ#"!" I'm not sure where you got your information from, but as far as I'm aware there are no known viruses for windows 7 mobile. There's no news items, and no discussions in forums regarding Windows 7 phone viruses. In fact, most discussions talk about how secure the OS is. Windows 7 mobile runs from ARM processors, so code written for Windows desktop machines is not compatible with Windows mobile devices. All 3rd party software has to come from the MS application store, and is digitally signed from Microsoft, so it can't be tampered with. Microsoft also have the ability to remove harmful applications from your phone at any point if they decide that it contains code that is malicious. All 3rd party software is written in Siverlight which is severely limited in terms of what it can do with the operating system. Applications run in an isolated "sandbox" which is unable to call the operating system directly, Instead APIs which themselves call a selection internal applications. Additionally, the file system is protected from running applications which only have access to their own limited areas of file system within their own sandbox. The inbuilt browser is severely limited in its ability to run scripts, so website based malware is highly likely to work. And finally, there's no impetus for virus writers to produce anything for windows 7 mobile as there are so few users of it, any potential profits wouldn't be worth the hassle of breaking through the security. More a case of" Microsoft hates competition !". A bit like the NSDAP used to
"In its place" well, it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good. After all, Judas Iscariot has probably been pretty lonely down there in the lowest circle of Hell, the one of ice, all these milennia. But once Bill G dies, Judas won't be alone any more ! The SMS crash is considered a software bug in 7.5 not a virus as it isnt present in the original 7 release, isnt self replicating and doesnt steal any information, it crashes the messaging stack (and other less important bits linked to the messaging service). Android runs on the Linux 2.6 kernel, and the iPhone is is based on BSD, a Unix derivative.

I am not of the view that Windows or indeed Microsoft should be banished from the face of the earth. Linux users owe a lot to Microsoft as if Windows was not so widely used Linux may have more malware written for it. I do think however that the Windows 8 business may result in problems within Europe. The Titter_Ye_Not group - for when you don't feel too serious.

Thanks for that info.I assume that by now a fix has been created to stop that problem.Strange there has been no similar bug on Android etc but then that can only be a good thing. After all, better to have a phone that does not crash due to a SMS bug. http://empressm7.uboot.com/ http://www.socialkink.com/empressmartine Vampire, pro/lifestyle ts dom/switch.Ageplay mummy/aunty/AB,medical play, domestic, energy, outdoor specialist."Who you calling"@?!;:$£<Σ#"!"
