I think it does tend to only be the ones discussing contentious issues.

Can't see the point of posting these things though if you aren't going to allow replies!

Pick and choose who responds to their blogs?

What is the point? Am I missing the point?

In some cases, to misquote Jack Nicholson at 1:38 "They can't handle the truth". I have had several replies hidden, usually because I point out the bleeding obvious, which bursts their little bubble.

smile... Me too, as if they write and post it, surly they should allow all to reply.

Same reason Admin picks and chooses who to allow on the site; to create a kind of social ambience. Admin tries to be as permissive and inclusive as possible but not allowing those who disparage others' kinks and not those who post illegally and not obsessive commercial advertising and so on.

People who moderate groups may want to be more specific, and people who write weblogs (especially when it's a sensitive subject) may want to be more specific, because it may feel like a more personal space to them.

My own home feels like a very personal space, and most of the time I'm quite picky about who I allow in (though when there's a wild party going on ...) :-)

It is possible of course to use powers of moderating or inviting to surround yourself only with people you agree with, sycophantic followers. But there are plenty of other possible reasons.

How will you ever become a more grounded and rounded individual if you can't acknowledge other people's opinions?

I find it really annoying, I mean really really annoying, and wonder if some people don't end up getting unpleasant memo's because they are in fact stupid cunts.

How about that for contentious?

Surely anyone who has been on IC for any length of time should have developed the hide of rhinoceros?

Compared to some sites, Popbitch and Mumsnet for example, IC is generally quite gentle by comparison.

You? (you @bohnanza)

Stating the bleeding obvious? and bursting their little bubble? gasp... *surely* not... laughing hysterically!!!

Oh dear God-I mean the supposedly Omnipotent one, not you Bohnanza.

I have just been on Mumsnet. Have a read anyone and please tell me if there really isn't seriously a case here for advocating eugenics.

Oh dear - not quite sure how to take that.

I can see that it might be annoying if you can't comment on a weblog, or even worse if your comment is deleted (hidden) after you've been to the trouble of writing it in the expectation that it would be published. I do think it would be better if people who intend to "moderate" a weblog would publish their "moderation policy" as part of the OP, so others know whether or not to bother replying. Sometimes people have an innate sense of appropriateness and self-censor their replies, e.g. if someone is obviously upset by the loss of a dear one, even the most pernickety grammar correctors tend to hold off.

As for me being a rounded and grounded person (based on my IC posting persona), I do try, but don't always get it right. Maybe I should try to live up to my better efforts more often.

I do think there are pachyderms on IC, but there are also people of gentler dispositions and finer sensitivities; in fact I think virtually everyone has areas and/or times when they're a bit vulnerable. Some may find certain sorts of post on their weblog as annoying as others find the inability to post as and where they want!

Congratulations again by the way. :-)

you cant win either way

yes a fair amount of people are thick-skinned enough - but not all are

Then what do they/should they do if their blog is hijacked

for me it would just be c'est la vie.....but I could just see why that would be irritating

Of course - once you allow an OP to remove that, then they have the option of bending a discussion

Such is life

Now listen...I did not "submit" my latest project - I THRUST it upon you...with great fury and vengeance...and stuff - alright?!?
