Is there any way of giving the TAB key its standard function on the site ? I hit it whilst attempting a post and ended up erasing four paragraphs of material. Thank you. S.x.

What does it do for you on here? When I use it it generally moves cursor focus onto the next command button or link, which is standard on the internet. 'I'm gonna go hit the juice bar. You probably wouldn't like it. It's not about living out childhood abuse through degrading sexual encounters. It's more about juice.'

As already asked, what does the TAB key do for you in that situation? What you might find easier if you have a word processor package is to draft out and make good your reply in that and then copy the finished content in to here. Having been stung by the whims of the internet gods before, I now use this as standard practice if I know I have a long reply to a post or similar email/task. That way I know I have a copy elsewhere should the original system have a problem etc. Its also worth saving the draft copy as you go along as you can easily delete it later. Hope that helps! I can only assume he was trying to use the tab key when editing a post or memo. In an explorer window the tab moves to the next button, memo field, etc. rather than insert spaces in a memo field. I'm still not quite sure how he did it though. I must admit if I do any lengthy memos I tend to use notepad or gedit depending on which operating system I use and periodically save them. One I've finished I copy and paste the whole lot in. "Sits alone and bends his cane, same old backsides again" - Madness

This is what I've always done, because I'm a crap typist. Type it all into Microsoft Turd, which you can set up to automatically correct all your typing errors (about every 3rd word for me); save what you're typing every few lines, then you can't lose it; when you're happy with your immaculately typed and spelled text, select it all by doing <CTRL>A then <CTRL>C; flip over to the window in IC, do <CTRL>V to paste it in, and send…
Look at it ^^^ superb, eh PS when you do accidentally lose something like that, sometimes <CTRL>Z will bring it back…

Done some experiments. On an ordinary PC running XP sp3. As usual in Windows TAB simply moves to the next focus which happens to be the "web board settings" link if you're typing a post. One very minor point. When replying to a post the focus is not automatically placed in the reply box.
If you lose some text by doing something you shouldn't have, it's always worth trying CTRL-Z which is the universal windows "undo last action" shortcut. It can't work in every situation but it's worth atry. Please remember that CTRL-Z does not work in real life, such as when you have spilt soup on the carpet
