There are chances for me to keep *a* job in the company, and I'm actively pursuing those. I'm also looking at jobs elsewhere - we all are.

My overriding emotion right now isn't worry, though - it's sadness. What's wrecked me is that the group I work in is being dismantled, and it was a group that I really, REALLY liked, both professionally and personally. So in terms of what I knew about my job when I woke up Thursday morning, that fat lady is belting out Puccini. And I need to grieve that. That's where my wrecktitude comes from, and it needs to run its course.

I believe that something will work out for me - I have good skills that my company (and other companies) need. So on that front, I think things will work out okay (I've already been internally head-hunted by another group in the company).

I just gotta be sad for a little while, that's all.

And, @Snow_Leopard99 (nice name change, btw), yes, it was as bloody as it sounded. But compared to other sites, who lost hundreds of people at once, we were lucky. I just wasn't one of the lucky ones.

When I heard the news that it was the other sites that took the main burden I thought "Hooray! she's got away with it." How wrong can I be.

You are feeling sad and lost, and that is completely normal, it's like grieving for a job and team you loved which you know, even in the best case scenario, will change, so it is normal to be feeling a loss.

I am sure that some of your "wrecktitude" is both the not yet knowing what will happen and the complete loss of control - I know that is not something you are used to as you are very organised, and I suspect something you really do not enjoy. There are however some bits that you can control, and looking into alternatives and scenario planning is something you can do and will help make you feel less "out of control".

Another thing you can control to a degree is your body's reaction to what is effectively a huge shock - make sure you get enough sleep, eat well, get lots of fresh air, and get some endorfins going (roller skating? stretching? whatever feels good!). It will make you better able to cope with whatever is to come.

I hope whatever happens isn't too drastic, too damaging to the team structure. And you have a bolt hole, just in case, so panic at least is held away. Everything atrophies, doesn't it? My own company are doing much the same; shortsighted decisions that are sure to bite them a few years from now. But the shareprice is what counts right now, so it's head down and soldier on.
