There's a major announcement coming at work tomorrow about job cuts. The rumour mill is running rampant at work, and has been since Monday - nobody's getting any work done.
There are rumours of thousands of redundancies (in a company that employs several tens of thousands), maybe site closures, all sorts of stuff. Marquees have been put up to accommodate site-wide meetings, VPs are flying all over the globe to get to sites for tomorrow morning, and there's speculation on forums, Twitter, and in trade journals.
I THINK my workmates and I are safe. I'll know tomorrow morning. Losing my job really doesn't fit with my plans, and I honestly don't know what I'll do if it happens.
If it's not me, it might well be people I work with, so I'll be feeling some major survivor's guilt. But I'll selfishly take survivor's guilt over outright panic at having lost my job.
So do me a favor, if you don't mind? Send a few positive vibes my way around 9am tomorrow morning?

Thanks guys. Unfortunately, the news isn't great. I haven't lost my job yet, but my group of 25 people have been told that there WILL be redundancies. They just haven't said WHEN they'll announce them (hopefully by the end of February) or how many of us will be out. So basically, it sucks. I really like the team of people I work with, and it's being dismantled for reasons that have nothing to do with how well we do our job. While I wait to find out if I still have a job, I somehow have to find the motivation to continue to DO my job - that's gonna be hard, but it's my best chance of showing the company that I want to stay. Sigh. Need hugs. Today is not a good day. I really, really didn't see this coming.

Lots of big hugs and have sent some more via a certain Mr Tox As you say, doing your job as well as you can is your best chance of preserving your job, so work your butt off and wow them. Whatever happens, it can only be a good thing for your boss and the management to be impressed by you and your hard work.
