It's just one of those things that still squicks a lot of people. And you tend to get the Health and Safety Police out in force if it's bought up as a preferred kink, so I would assume some would be keeping their liking/fascination or interest in it to themselves. Many people might hesitate to talk about it.
A couple years ago I was chatting to a femsub who ia a law enforcement officer. She told me scat is technically illegal along with Roman Showers, although it isn't usually enforced. It might have changed in the meantime, or it might not have been true. But it might be why people don't talk much about it in threads. (I did just try a google and came up with scat PORN isn't illegal and a lot of poor unfortunate organisations with that acronym.
