...now i just know you're thinking "lucky Mrs Loris" BUT they're conversely the only venomous mammal. Spouse lady lorises might risk it....

Some shrews and the duck billed platypus are also venomous. The slow loris does have the honour of being the only venomous primate though, and is arguably one of the cutest things on the planet Edited 25 Jan 12, 8:24 PM by Random_Dan

Ah, good point - should listen more carefully...mind you, can't see a DBP going down... Thought shrews had poisonous thumbs? I DO know that my cats wouldn't eat them Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I just followed the link and found this, I don't think it's venomous @The_Coven / @The_Problem_Page / I want the "Moon on a stick and the Stars suspended from bunting". / So many haystacks, so few needles! / Any man can be what a woman wants him to be, if he wants to be with her... relinquish the power to her and let her lead the way.

OMG this is the most interesting fact I have heard this year. (I'm that sad). I love slow lorises. I used to haunt the small mammal house when I went to London Zoo. They are so, well, slow. And utterly rubbish, in a fascinating way. I can't wait for the morning to spread the news.

So THAT'S why my cat always looked petrified when cornered by a shrew!! @The_Coven / @The_Problem_Page / I want the "Moon on a stick and the Stars suspended from bunting". / So many haystacks, so few needles! / Any man can be what a woman wants him to be, if he wants to be with her... relinquish the power to her and let her lead the way.

Cats dont normally eat shrews because they taste and smell bad to them because of scent glands on their sides. A bite from a shrew is only going to cause discomfort in a cat, as shrews can't generally kill much more an a medium sized mouse.

Is there anything you DON'T know about small animals? OP, just wanted to say I love the title of this blog. It's perfect. "How the fuck are you going to do that with your eyeballs bouncing off the fucking cement?!"

Very cool blog! Fascinating animals, it's true. I watched the recent Loris programme, and was very surprised by the idea of their venomous bite. Really nasty consequences for the bitten ones too. Beautiful creatures. Very, very sad the way they are abused and sold in those awful street menagerie markets though.. |
