Dear Admin I was just wondering.... With the recent expulsion of ClassAct in mind, I was wondering how the process of banning people from IC works. Can you ban someone for one specific incident, if they really have gone too far? Or like Class Act, does it have to be many things, building up over time, that lead up to you loosing patience with whoever it is? Are they warned first, to amoderate their behaviour? And are they banned forever, or can someone come back, tail between their legs? Just so you know, I have no intention of getting slung out of here. I am a Good Sub!

FWIW I moderate another kink forum. We will ban someone who explicitly breaks the rules, who clearly doesn't give a damn about the site, but simply wants to score a point - usually blatant advertising. We have an age policy, under 21 people are not allowed - it's an international site and the owner wishes to avoid falling foul of any jurisdictions, so if someone clearly under-age posts, their posts are removed and they are told why. If they persist in posting they will be banned. If someone persistently attacks other members, they will be warned and if they ignore the warnings, they will be banned. We avoid taking sides, that way we remain impartial and are seen to be. Somehow I think Admin follows much the same procedure. be a switch, double your fun

Classact is banned??? Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I'm a moderator in a non-kink forum. The basic rules are politeness and consideration for other members. We would prefer to educate rather than ban. I know of forums where the moderation is very strict indeed, sometimes to the point of being intrusive, though it does keep the signal to noise ratio very good. I would tend to shy away from forums with very slack moderation resulting in lots of abuse etc.

A few months ago I reported someone to Admin, because she/he was trying to get money from me. I was impressed with how quickly Admin reacted. One hour and this person was gone! Word to the wise. DON'T MESS WITH THE SMILEY FACE!

I don't quite see how anyone can be banned in reality from this or any other site.. Let's say I'm "banned" for posting this comment. In 10 minutes, or less I can create another email address, username and profile with no visible connection to the banned one. You won't catch me from my email, either. If I choose to do so, I'll give a false name and address to the email provider. I don't have to prove who I am anywhere along the chain. Nor can it be done through IP addresses, since they are usually dynamic. Before the geeks whittle away at my argument, yes, I know a forensic computer geek probably can, but ...
