Forgive me if i am stating the obvious, but tattooing and bondage do go together, as they have, in some senses, similar motivations. Surrendering to bondage and having oneself tattooed both commit you to consequences from which you cannot escape. the picture of the hog-tied woman on a table, wearing tattoos depicting her own situation are a bold, irrevocable commitment to externalising ones inner desires onto one's skin. i wonder what others think?

I think it is a very tenuous link. Everything we do commits you to consequences whether you recognise them or not.

I disagree.

Bondage is a temporary thing, it passes. One can be bound and unbound many times in an evening, the binding can be different each time, the reasons for it different each time. The binding can be removed easily if a mistake is made or the binder decides to do something differently.

Ink is to bondage what a hat is to a dress. You could put them together and they could look nice, but that's it really.

Inked but so not into bondage

The only link I can see is that traditional Japanese tattooing, and bondage both look pretty, but take too long. ;)

I think the motivations are only similar if that's how you as an individual link them.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who have tattoos just from an aesthetic point of view, and equally those who see it as the opposite of bondage, and instead the liberation or rebellion from what they might perceive as the restrictions of societal norms.

So, whilst they may go together for some people, I don't think they're linked, either in nature or motivation, for many others.

I think there maybe some ancient link as slaves (yes, genuine slaves) were tattoo'd. Some Religions hence ban them

In the Old Testament, they were just banned. The prohibition is in Leviticus. I won't tell you exactly where, go have a look for yourself. While your at it, see all the other things that you do, that are wrong in the eyes of their god. :)

It isn't just a ban from the Bible, it's a cultural thing as well
