Very much agree. However, the rules for clubs and parties have evolved over a period of time and it is pretty much impossible to ascertain at the door what your sexuality is I guess.
People cannot tell by looking at me that I like sadistic women in fact some people mistake me for being dominant or just plain 'vanilla' So whilst your principles are fine, in practice clubs and parties need some way of vetting who goes in.

But what if there's a person out there for whom that IS a fetish (and by consequence, you are their fetish) and who wears/does the things that are your fetish? If all my fetishes were to do with how *I* looked and acted, I'd just stay at home and play with myself. More.

I don't worry what other people think; that wasn't my point. I'm trying to explain why people dress up for fetish nights. It's because, you know, they have fetishes, and they go there to seek out/play with/observe/talk to people that fulfil those fetishes.

It's not about the way *they* dress, it's about the way other people would look. Visual fetishes aren't just about fashion. Pet play? Schoolgirls? Public humiliation? Your profile says that you have a fetish for latex, exhibitionism, collars, uniforms, and prison scenarios. Your tastes are indicative of visual fetishes - what a girl might be wearing at a fetish club is an element of what you find desirable - and indicative of what she's into.

If you aren't going to go out to clubs, does it really matter to you about dresscodes? Dommy_nick Licence to perve!

I actually just emailed the woman who runs the local fetish night about dress codes. I do have gear that I like wearing, but because it's pretty revealing (it's a Satyr outfit, furry chaps, horns, boots and nothing else) and I'm a pre-op trans man I need to know that I'll feel comfortable in a space before I put it on. However I also don't feel comfortable wearing black, and I don't own any black clothes. I asked if I would be alright to wear smart dark brown/blue and she said it would be fine. When I go I plan on wearing smart blue cords, a brown/cream striped shirt and dark brown tie. I do find it a bit strange how the fetish scene is so obsessed with the colour black. Fair enough for some people it makes them feel sexy, but personally I find it an extreamly unsexy colour to wear, and it also doesn't really suit me. Though I think what people have said about the dress codes mostly being there to make sure people have made an effort is probably true. Edited to add: Of course the fact that I was messenging her on FetLife and the night seems to mostly advertise on there might be a factor in this, as she would know that I am into the scene and not just there as a spectator. Well if we are talking about a event, then I find a smart well fitting suite shirt and tie works for me. And listing to the comments I get from both sexes it goes down well

Black isn't one of my 'colours' according to the lady that did them a few years back... So wear what you feel good in, layering helps with feeling comfortable too... taking items off to a level you are happy with is so much easier than being uncomfortable in what you are wearing and then spending time wishing your wore something else... Also forget to take your measuring stick... you know the one we often carry around that says you are too fat, short, tall, thin, pale etc... once you stop comparing yourself to other people you can have more fun finding out who you are...
let's get it right this time... then I will reward you!

Most events (aside from the 'high glamour' stuff) specify black as a minimum. I've pottered around events wearing nothing more interesting than black jeans and a black t-shirt. Usually I wear black tights, black shorts, a black strappy top and a floaty black bat-wing overshirt. Wouldn't be out of place in a 'nilla club but also suitable for kink events. Don't worry too much. Very few people will judge you for not wearing this season's most extravagant latex number. Don't you just love goodbyes? |
