There's an interesting article on the BBC today about a small community where women rule.................... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16592633 ................they even have a mens rights movement to campaign for change! Would this be sub-male heaven, or is it entirely the wrong form of submission?
The man they interviewed didn't seem very keen to express an opinion. Couldn't help wondering if he was in line for some CP if he said the wrong thing

Cultural gender inequality in any context is not consensual so it's not D/s. The 1950s stay at home housewife for example might be a hot fantasy for some and thats fine, but if you don't get to opt in or out its just oppression, so the idea of real situations where that is just te way life is does nothing for me.

It may be to do with male mortality rates being far higher than female ones or that the women are the farmers and land is in their name. Usually what appears to us to be odd or quaint is done for very practical reasons. Not that far away from there in Napal polygamy is very common in the Sherpa community albeit it is the woman with many husbands being that most of the time many of her husbands will be away porttering in the mountains.

Meghalaya has matrilineal societies not matriarchal societies. For example, the Meghalaya legislative assembly has 60 members, and I count one woman out of 60. :T: www.tanos.org.uk

It is just a real life example of where in a largely male dominated place like India you can get slight variations superficially which have no effect upon the inherently patriarchal social/cultural and political system. It is irrelevant in terms of how India's power base is really founded and maintained. It is, even in the weak form such described, still a small version of (some) gender based power which outside of a personal consenting relationship will always lead to problems. Lastly, it has nothing to do with bdsm. Dominant partner in an FLR with @paulss
