Emergency service vehicle sirens should still be two tone; the intro to White Riot just doesn't work with a wooer wooer wooer siren.
So, I'm pushing the big red trolley up Acacia Avenue, whistling a seamless segue of Marianne Faithfull's, 'As Tears Go By', Orange Juice's, 'Rip It Up' and Altered Images's, 'I Could Be Happy', (I really am the heppest of hep cats), when, in the distance, I can see and hear a polce car doing ninety, cos, presumably, they've got the word to go.

When I hear the siren I get a little anxious as my mind takes me back to my days as an enforcer for the Krays...Betty and Sylvia Kray, that is, who ran the W.I. jam and preserves racket in the east end of Royal Tunbridge Wells. It got messy, at times...very messy, indeed.
The screech of brakes, as the police car pulls up beside me, brings me back to the present.
At first, the old mantra of, 'Say nuffink until 'Parker' Penn, the brief gets here', dominates my thoughts as the fresh faced young peeler winds down the window and says, "Morning, mate. Do you know where Acacia House is?"
I do and I tell him.
Coppers asking directions? It aint right, I tells yer.

If I ever have to be arrested I want it to be that van - but playing the WHOLE intro - loud - and staffed by scantily clad WPCs with large <er> handcuffs and ........

Longish story, which I'll try to shorten. For three days, every time I went up that road I knocked on doors, trying to find the right Nan and Granddad, to no avail. On the fourth day, they put me on another round, so I told the fella who was doing the Acacia Avenue round which houses I'd asked at and which ones were left....the second house he tried was the right one.

For me, as I'm a bit of a traditionalist and want to go back to the two-tone siren, it has to be just the first bit of the intro.
