Shingles... (13)

Bloody hurts!

Four days ago I see something that upset me greatly and we'll leave it at that. Within 24 hours I break out in a rash on the left hand side of my face, affecting mainly the area of the eyebrow, forehead and going into the hair line. I'm thinking "Okay, it's nothing, eczema caused by stress, it'll be fine in a day or two". It gets worse by day two and by day three has affected my eye. I'm looking like I've been mugged and stamped on repeatedly and the pain to my eye is excruciating.

It's shingles, I'm infectious and isolated for a week.

The doc also tells me there's some damage to the left eye and it could result in permanent damage. Great start to 2012, cheers!

I'll drink a toast to five doses of Aciclovir daily!

And maybe an eyepatch in the future.

You know just how to make me laugh! I've looked through them and have to say there are several I love. It's given me some devilish ideas ;-)

I didn't realise you could get shingles on your face. I hope you get better soon.

Did you ever watch Pushing Daisies? It was a brilliant American comedy/drama cut short after 3 seasons. Aunt Lily used to wear an eye patch:

It's not all doom and gloom!

ps. I get pompholyx eczema on my hands and right foot (I don't know why the left foot is OK) which started because of undue stress and now just seems to reappear in the summer. It's really painful so I do empathise.

Luckily you can't "give" someone Shingles.

But if people haven't had chickenpox, they can get it from you.

So, its a stay away from people who haven't had chickenpox, pregnant ladies, anyone who is immunocompromised.

Shingles is horrid :( You can get it more than once too unfortunately.

I loved Pushing Daisies and remember Aunt Lily well! That series was so funny and it's such a shame they decommissioned it.

Ouch @ the eczema. I feel for you, I get eczema too and it was monstrous as a child, really severe, but I learned the more I kept my skin moist the better conditioned it became as opposed to the doctors' advice to avoid bathing more than once a week! I started bathing twice daily and it just cleared right up. You may just have an extra sensitivity area on that foot which causes it to break out each year in the warmer months.

Thanks for the info, Firemynx. I looked it up late last night when I suspected it and it's a text book case of it.

I had to be slotted in at the end of doctor's surgery this morning, so they had me waiting outside for 45 minutes until I could be seen as there were pregnant women in there with their toddlers, too.

Neither my folks have had chickenpox so I have to keep away from them both and they'll have to fend for themselves for a week.
