Dear all
For exactly two years and one month now @Informed_Debate has been happily barrelling along with very little in the way of active moderation, despite the often controversial subject matter. So I was sad today to make our first ban, I hope it'll be the last.
In all that time people have, for the most part, been civil, thoughtful, good-humoured and most importantly, well-meaning. Our discussions have been thought provoking, frustrating, informative, possibly occasionally a teensy bit repetitive (ahem), but overall, entertaining. So I'd like to take the opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone, whether you post a lot, a little, or just lurk.
We have a healthy 596 subscribers. I'd also like to take the opportunity to encourage anyone who hasn't yet signed up to consider doing so. It'd be a lovely late second birthday present to us all to reach 600. ![]()
Thanks again, and congratulations.

Well sorry to hear that you had to ban someone, but I guess you had your reasons. I frequently read the postings on the group board, and have a suggestion - if you are going to ban anyone in future perhaps you could do it on some sort of criteria. As far as I can see the only criteria for membership of the group is that members are informed when they debate (the clue is in the name).
If someone posts a lot of stuff on many of the threads, but is also very clearly not informed about anything at all, ever, maybe they could also be banned?

Following on from @lush_london's suggestion, it might also be worth pointing out that that Informed Debate does not mean willy waving or trying to recreate the Monty Python Argument sketch. Sorry you've had to ban someone, all the same. I want to hold you close / Skin pressed against me tight Edited 4 Jan 12, 8:54 PM by MissAnnThropist

We have to wave something. It's the law. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

Thanks.
It's a good idea, but... There's no requirement to be informed actually, merely an aspiration. There are posting guidelines on the group profile though.
with an additional disclaimer that moderation may not be consistent but it will always be final. I have been asked before for clearer criteria, which I think is a fair request. My feeling then and my feeling now though is that anyone in any doubt about whether their post meets the standards set out above should be warmly encouraged to err on the side of caution.
