After checking with medical professional, advice is a MINIMUM 6 weeks - but you need to be given the all-clear when you have your check-up. If you are uneasy talking to the doc - just say you want to hit the gym and do some tummy muscle training.

That's a good idea, thank you! I was gonna ask him when I can start playing "squash" again, as I figured that action is closest to caning.

An aside (of absolutely no help).......BUT, squash...SQUASH.. how the hell can you compare that to a caning (everyone knows i hate canes).....i play(ed) squash, twas a hard game...BUT JEEEZ

Well, my boy likes hard canings...and when I get a rhythm going, I am rather reminded of charging around the court. :-D

like everyone else the disclaimer of *doctor knows best* still rings true, and this is only my personal medical knowledge from my education. therefore not as good as a fully qualified surgeon.

I would be very careful. it does depend alot on what kind of surgery you are looking at, waist training corsetry does move the internal organs and as such is much more dangerous after the surgery than almost anything else.

once you have stopped feeling any stomach pains, i would give it at least another month, (as the tissues will still be repairing inside, and moving them with a corset could tear the internal wounds open again.) if not two, before slowly starting to undergo corsetry again.

(handy hunt: find a terrified med or nurse student, get them to find out from the doctor for you, confidenciality protects you from identification then if the doctor is a scary one)

*again, the above is not qualified medical knowledge, even if it is bonafide university teachings.. doctor knows best.. or at least, has the insurance to say so..*

Love your handy hint, ty! x

I had 'major abdominal surgery' 6 years ago, and I wouldn't take the risk even now as I still suffer some pain around the internal scar areas and everything there still doesn't feel as 'healthy' as it used to.

I've never done waist training before so that could also be a factor, but I would have had I been introduced to the idea before my surgery.

As it is, I don't think I would consider it unless I felt my core area had regained it's strength, and that's what I would suggest anyone do, but that's my view, based on my life and health history and probably quite excessive for most people.

Don't rush it though, whatever you do :)

Why be difficult, when with little bit of effort you can be impossible?

SQUASH? Woman - you should only be thinking about armchair ping pong for a goodly while - otherwise your innards will be going ping ping!

How soon after major abdominal surgery can a waist training corset safely be worn?

Thanks in anticipation.

I had back surgery 8 and 1/2 years ago - a so-called partial discectomy, although it was actually about 85% of the disc that was removed.

The physio at the hospital said I could resume sex within a week as I'd had keyhole surgery, but she was very specific about suitable positions.

I remained off work for about 8 weeks after the op, having daily physio, and even when I returned to work I was still quite frail while I rebuilt my strength with ongoing physio.

I recall I resumed play around the same time I went back to work but I was extremely cautious. I avoided all play that would have stressed my spine, so there was no bending over anything or being tied in weird positions. Mostly I was was either standing upright or lying down as I couldn't sit for long either so soon after the op. My regular play partner of the time used to draw a huge ring round my surgery area with a black magic marker as a reminder to him of where not to hit with the floggers!

I tell you all this because after major surgery, the body does need plenty of time to regroup. It took me a good 4 months after the op to feel like I had anything like my pre-op energy levels and to feel less cautious about play.

I think the advice given about waiting a good while before corset training is well worth heeding.

I agree. I've had quite a few abdominal surgeries each one healing differently

Even now after the last op a couple if years ago a corset can still hurt my scars so I don't wear one for too long.

I would still go with what people are saying and ask your doctor as they know best.

He's utterly unapproachable :(

I recently had a discussion with an "unapproachable Doctor and his equally unapproachable receptionists" it took about 2 minutes to destroy the delusions of the receptionists that the Doctor would not see me and about 5 minutes to remind the Doctor that he was there to provide a service to me which he was in fact being paid to provide...............it is a sad reflection on the state of the health service who seem to have forgotten the reason they are there....... to provide a service to its patients. If you find him so unaproachable report him to the BMA he deserves it thats the best advice this Doctor could give you, as for any advice on when to resume waist training (without knowing your full history )I would suggest about 6 months befor resumption and then proceed with caution namly take it steadily and with patients.
