Who made the comment about illegal drugs in Sherlock's flat? Was it one of the police, saying it because they think he's weird and must have some drugs stashed? Or by Sherlock himself, sarcastically? I can't remember clearly (obviously!), but at the time, I didn't think it actually meant anything.

ooh, ooh, I forgot to say, as he wasn't in it much, but how lovely is Rupert Graves as Lestrade? Rocking a very attractive silver fox look these days, too. Yum. It's the gift that keeps on giving, this show.

Most are actually short stories, so you could dip into The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes or The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes to get started. Of the few full length novels, my favourite is A Study in Scarlet. Aut disce aut discede. Manet sors tertia caedi

I'm fairly sure it was one of Lestrade's junior officers in the first episode of series 1 who said it.

I LOVE this programme; it's refreshing to find something on TV that doesn't blatantly spell out the plot to you as if you hadn't quite managed to evolve from primates and develop the ability for logical thought. While I found some elements were quite predictable, this was more then compensated for by twists that I did not see coming. As to the Dominatrix theme I thought it was stylishly played (Of course BDSM wasn't the main theme, it's a detective story. Christ.) The character of Irene Adler, was smart, confident, powerful and a challenge even for the vaunted Sherlock Holmes. The psychological power play going on between them was evident and incredibly hot, especially as when the intense intellectual and physical struggle was done, in the end she begged Sherlock for mercy. That for me was just delicious, particularly as she was such an exceedingly strong woman. She is what she no doubt represents to Sherlock, a challenge. Personally my overall favourite part was when Sherlock reports to the police the injuries sustained by the CIA Agent/Intruder from falling out the window, before promptly throwing him out of the window. x Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars...

There are lots of ways in which Sherlock and John remind me of Sheldon and Leonard from The Big Bang Theory. Which is a good thing. I think Moffat's definitely pro-kink. There's references to handcuffs and cosplay in Dr Who. He tends to write men as being nervous, like Kenny in Press Gang, or nervous of women in general, like Geoff in Coupling, or nervous of their girlfriends in particular, like Steve in Coupling or Rory in Dr Who. He's turned the Eleventh Doctor into a man with the nervous trait of verbal diarrhoea, who has a wife who scares the shit out of him. He often writes women as dominant, like Lynda in Press Gang, or as very fit and slightly henpecking, like Susan in Coupling and Amy in Dr Who. River Song and Irene Adler are blatant heterosexual male wish fulfilment figures - good-looking, sexually confident, sexually experimental, they come in a variety of outfits, they're utterly brilliant and totally devoted to the one man. It's this last fact that suggests he'd be a switch or a top, whereas the stuff above it would've suggested sub. That's if he's kinky, mind. I reckon he's one of these that would definitely play with handcuffs and Anne Summers whips but if his missus said, "Shit in my mouth," or "Let's do some racial stuff," he'd revert to the "You can take this stuff too far," bullshit.
