It's now possible to upload pictures to your profile by email. To do this, just go to the normal picture upload page and then follow the email uploading link at the bottom. That page shows your special abcdef@p.icna.me email address where abcdef is a code unique to your profile. This feature was quite complicated to put together, as it involves email servers as well as the database and pictures store, so please bear with us if any bugs show up. As usual, please report them on this thread. Regards Admin Remember: it's only a website Edited Sat 31 Dec 11, 1:54 PM by Admin

A glichette. Just uploaded a test pic from my iPhone. It worked fine except that the picture is in portrait but uploaded in landscape so is on it's side. I checked the email I sent and it went in portrait. The advice memo shows it in landscape too. Sent from a yahoo.co.uk address.

Thanks: looks like it's not properly converting the image orientation info that the iPhone records (iPhones always store images in landscape then have a flag that says which way up to display it.) We'll have a look. Admin Remember: it's only a website Edited 1 Jan 12, 1:35 PM by Admin

Can I just add a general warning about Google picture search. I suggest if people don't want to be identified they first upload the picture to google picture search and search and if it takes them straight to their web site or publicity photos on line about them then they don't use that picture and pick another? I have checked a few of mine elsewhere (I don't use photographs on BDSM sites at all though) and they take you straight to the real me in about 60 seconds.

Is that because of metadata embedded in the photo? It would be nice to know that IC removes such details from the photo during the upload process... ?

No, not really. Google picture search is not metadata based, they analyse the contents of the image to find similar ones, its called Content Based Image Retrieval. (edited to correct typo)

The picture orientation stuff should work correctly now. I've taken the opportunity to add PNG and GIF support for pictures uploaded by email too, although not for direct uploads by web browser yet - that will be coming soon now the code is there. (IC has been stripping off EXIF metadata for several years now, due to the privacy implications especially for images created with phones.) Admin Remember: it's only a website

Yes, nothing to do with metadata. In fact the picture I'm thinking about would not have meta data on it as it was scanned from oldish film and yet it takes you to about 10 different places on line with my real name (all to do with work stuff). I have not spent very long checking but 2 other photographs of me did not have the same effect as they were not the same image or looked different or something. It just means that pictures are not anonymous anymore for some people. If there is nothing about you on line and no photos of you with your real name then it is not an issue. It is not a massive secret that I'm submissive and I'm pretty unextreme anyway but I still would not put up a photograph on a BDSM site for work and children reasons.

If you want to minimise the possibility of your photo being recognised/matched by a computer, a good rule of thumb is to do the exact opposite of what the requirements for a passport photo is. These requirements are tailored to help a computer recognise your face, so if you do the opposite, you make it harder for your pic to match - using current technology that is, not sure if that will apply in 5 years. Also, omitting or covering one or more of the following helps: - Eyes - Nose - Mouth - Chin - Shape of the face I wont go any longer on this, as I'm sliding very dangerously off topic...

Yes it works now, thanks Admin. For those who have to keep their worlds apart, also be aware of tineye.com where you can have the net trawled for the same image, so if you use the same anonymous but individual picture on, for example, a yoga forum and on here, the image can be linked. |
