Howdy hey everyone,

in full seasonal spirit i thought i would have a look at memories, a big part of Christmas, i have some rather fun favourites from mine that i wanted to share.

movies: mary poppins- even with the american robin outside the window and dick van dyke's stupid british accent , "Gawd and blimey mary poppins" this was a great and brilliant classic, I can remember watching when I was very small and wondering how she could fly. the aristocats - this was the first thing i ever was taken to at the cinema, silly and funny and lovable, a Disney not at its best b ut still good. beauty and the beast- i was 14 when i first saw this and got really captivated by it, okay it was disney cheesiness but still really cute. my girl - this was the first film star who i ever fell in love with, i was 12 when it came out and really went for it

books: famous five - sorry to all who loathe Blyters but Famous Five was brilliant, even if secret seven were pathetic, the Faraway Tree was good too but famous five stays with me longer. R L Stine - the point horror and goosebumps series of my teenage years rocked, they just did. Nancy Drewe- sorry but I loved this.

Along with this I really got into Shakespeare, so anyway what was your favourites?

I used to read a lot of ghost stories in my childhood but in my teens I became an atheist and stopped believing in them :)

I have to agree with you on The Famous Five, along with her set of Malory Towers books. I loved them as a child.

I still have some of those books at Mums and on the rare occasions I go home, I'm often snuggled on the sofa reading them.

Favourite childhood film has to be The Slipper and The Rose. Even now I remember every line and every song.

Sad, I know but they bring back my childhood for me :)

Enid Blyton books.....I devoured them as a child. The faraway tree was one of my favourites and then I discovered Mallory Towers and St. Clares. Wonderful memories :)

Yeah have to add my name to the list of faraway tree lovers. I also read seven and five. The first book i read as a child was Matilda so that has to be up there, along with all other Dahl classics.

Films I watched one yesterday, the railway children, also little women, Hocus Pocus when I was a little older.

As to films, we went to 'Saturday Morning Pictures' every week. I'm sure it was the 'bad' ladies in some of those films that made me kinky :)

I've never been much of a film lover so I'm struggling to remember films from childhood.

I did enjoy The absent minded professor (the original version of Flubber - I think it was the B film not the main feature). I remember being dragged along with my brother to watch various James Bonds and being bored stiff, and I remember having nightmares after watching Battle of Britain (the scene where the pilot's goggles fill with blood)

I've always preferred reading. Favourites were Five in a Dolls House by Helen Clare, Stig of the Dump by Clive King, Emil and the Detectives by Eric Kastner, any Professor Branestawm story and anything by Rosemary Sutcliffe, Henry Treece and Geoffrey Trease.

Edit:Bedknobs and Broomsticks - I liked that.

Geoffrey Trease. Named one. Cue for Treason and Popinjay Stairs, my favourites. And everyone loves the famous five I don't care what they say.

Stig of course. And yes, loved bedknobs and broomsticks as well as Mary P, David Tomlinson brilliant in both.

Altogether now: "Treguna, Mercoides, trecorum satis dee..."
