Hi, hope im posting this to the right area. I am trying to find out which venues (munches and clubs) have adequate disability access for wheelchair users?

Any information would be gratefully appreciated. Wheelchair users need loving too!

I used to enjoy whipping, necrophilia and bestiality but then I realised I was flogging a dead horse.

@Play_Space has disabled access and is fully wheelchair friendly with a disabled loo, all on one level, etc.

Even disabled parking next to the front door. :-) (though sometime our equipment vans are in the way - you just have to tell us if we've forgotten to move them. :-) )

@Play_Space - Next party is Friday, January 6, 2012 and the first Friday of every month!
Road Trip to the Sea!!! The October trip has tJust elapsed...More info here.

The Marina Fountain, where we hold the St Leonards munch. Has a pub regular who is a wheelchair user. In addition he is a smoker, so it's access all areas here, should you ever be down this way. :)

Owner of The Croppery Dungeon and Breakfast. Organises The St Leonards munch.

Exodus has an access ramp and is largely on the same floor. I do t know if they have a wheelchair-accessible toilet, but midstar would tell you!

Don't all venues open to the public have to have access?

You would have thought so wouldnt you?

Unfortunately, unless it is a government building or a corporate venue, more often than not, life is a nightmare for wheelchair users

If in any doubt, try borrowing a friends wheelchair and spending a day trying to wheel around soho in london. good luck with that!

I think the problem in London is that due to the age of the buildings and infrastructure disabled access was never envisaged when they were designed and built. Now, to update alot of the buildings is difficult, partly due to building regulations and cost (I know, but its not cheap).

I would imagine it would be a nightmare to be a wheelchair user in London, its a busy place and people don't have time, or manners. It was hard enough pushing my gran around when she was disabled in old age. Some woman shouted at me as I parked in the kiddies space as there were no diabled spaces left. The second word was off, followed by a rant about her having fat children who should learn to walk a little.

LOL! @ Fat Kids.

Its true enough though. I see parents shouting and being abusive when they think they are being protective of their children and 'speaking as a mother' etc etc, but then I see their kids and I think to myself 'you know something, thats child abuse right there, stop over feeding the kid, you are causing it heart problems!'

Ah some people just like to moan!

All new bulids or updates to there planning has to now have Disability Access but if they cant get London Underground step free there no getting non gov buliding to have Access. In Manchester first bus and JPT have sent away buses with easy access and gone back to step buses. You cant force a bussinss to have easy access unless tax payers are going to fund it. Some say H/S is at risk letting wheelchair uses into a venue this is very true in case of fire as you cant put staff at risk helping a wheelchair user. As staff cant help with lifts so unless there a ramp to street level it is a H/S matter yes it sounds sad but true. Some of the events I work at help wheel chair users up stairs but no body is insured to do so. And yes I would help and put my life at risk if there was a fire and am not saying this I have done so with a fire years ago.

I support all venues trying to give Access and maybe a customer and owner tax is needed at venues that dont have Access but the tax would help fund venues with the work needed but it not going to happen but maybe venues could ask customers if they are happy to pay more to help them.
