As of this morning around 8 or 9 am I'm unable to login to the site as per usual. Actually I was kicked out at that time while writing a board post. Whenever I try to Login and give Login+password I get returned to the homescreen with this notice:
Since others could post (hence must have been able to login), the problem assumedly was on my site, so I tried to resolve it: I activated accepting all cookies instead of just those of this site, I use no adblocker and have tried different browsers and restarting my computer. I tried making a new profile, which worked to a degree - I received the activation email, could activate the profile and was returned to the same message as per before 'You are viewing IC as Guest ...' Now I'm working with a proxy from within the UK and I can login. Even if a little clumsy, I can use most parts of the site. Coming from Austria and not from the UK itself I consider myself more of a guest at this fine place, so I can certainly make do with what I have - this post is more of a heads-up that whatever technical changes might have been done this morning seem to have had some unforeseen side-effects that might have hit more then me, but travellers etc. alike. On a side-note from an internet veteran, I find this board remarkably well kept and running for a board that is alive more then ten years! Kudos!

FYI, I have previously used IC without problems when in Luxembourg and France. Smile like you mean it.

There are no UK-specific requirements about signing-in to IC, so I'd guess if you used a non-UK proxy it would work too. Presumably it's something about your ISP. Admin Remember: it's only a website

Dang it. If nothing here has changed, it must be somewhere on the way or on my side in spite of all hints showing the opposite. Will investigate this further tonight - now this is gonna be an interesting phonecall with my ISP Thank you, Admin, for the swift reply! Edited 16 Dec 11, 1:11 PM by SparklingEyes

From memory, this is how IC behaves if you try to use it via TOR. Assuming that you're not using TOR, is it possible that someone is running a TOR exit node on the same network as you? This is possible if you're connecting via a business or educational establishment's network.

I have logged into IC when abroad, from different countries, mostly recently while in the United States and had no problems whatsoever including using a smartphone. Perhaps, you need to delete your cache, temp internet files and cookies. Use a proper clean-up tool to ensure you have covered all the obvious. Can you still log into other sites or services you use via your normal ISP address?

I live in Germany and mine is working fine so it's probably not IC.

Problem solved Thanks for all your ideas and inputs. While I did tackle everything on my computer, at least tried to before posting, what I hadn't done before was rebooting modem and router. That at last did the trick. Phew! Sometimes its the easy things I tell everyone else to do.. you know, pull and reconnect the plugs... ouch. |
