The thing that makes me laugh are the signs as you approach Romford: "Romford, Historic Market Town"

I'm sure this is technically correct:)

Edited to add a picture of one of these signs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Havering_romfo...

You DO mix with the strangest of folks mate :)

Anyway what has this to do with a Club in Acton claiming they are running the ONLY NYE players club in London (though I see they've now added "probably" to the front)

Depends what part of London you're going to/from

and Romford wants to be there own town like Croyden does but are forced to be part of Gtr London. just like Wigan is forced to be part of Gtr Manchester. some towns get forced to be part of a bigger city most people in Romford will not say there a Londoner. but people from acton will as they dont have a town centre.

Depends (and I know you're not a Londoner) when I lived in London if someone outside London asked me where I lived I said "London" , if someone IN London asked me I said "Highgate"

If you've ever looked at a map of Acton it seems to consist mainly of crisscrossing railways along with loads of stations.

Estate agents will try to sell it to you as "Ealing Borders".

:)

Acton in popular culture

South Acton is the site of actual housing estate featured in long running BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses - although the script described the Trotters as living in Peckham. The tower block where Rodney and Delboy were supposed to be living is the real life Harlech Tower.

Episode 1 of How the Other Half Lives, a Channel 4 documentary, shows the poverty of one family on the South Acton estate compared to living in the wealthy part of the country.

In the episode of Alan Partridge Towering Alan, the character Mike Sampson is from Acton. He is a socially inept character who describes Acton as having "a few too many blacks."

Acton Park often hosted filming for programmes such as Rose & Macaulay and The Deal. Other parts of Acton were used for The Sweeney and early episodes of The Bill.

Saying that I know London better then most Londoners due to the job I had. Used to ride a motorbike for interfora and my area was within M25 so I used to get about.
